XP does not recognize IFOEDIT as an assignable program

I recently had to use the restore command to fix a problem I had with NERO. (Not to bore you, but after applying recent MS updates and also NERO 5.5.10.0 I started getting coasters and was not sure why at the time so I just did a restore to a known working environment)

I also deleted the many versions of IFOEDIT I had and downloaded a fresh version... (just to clean things up a bit)

I am burning DVD-Rs successfully again, BUT... I can NO LONGER tell XP to OPEN IFO files WITH IFOEDIT... I try to use the OPEN WITH command... I go find IFOEDIT.exe but it doesn't work...

I have to NOW open IFOEDIT first and then open the file I want from the program... I much prefer to simply double click on the IFO files I plan to work on from My Documents folder...

There must be a registry command or something that tells XP to handle this properly...

Any ideas...?

Not at home so can't remember fully if this is available on XP, but you should be able to set up this using the folder options in explorer.

Just selct file types and then find IFO. Select change then point it to IFOedit.

The problem is that Windows XP allows me to specify associations to programs, even to browse and find IFOEDIT but does not seem to recognize it as a program that accepts associations...

I did not have this issue before... It occured after deleting all IFOEDIT from my PC and downloading a fresh copy... There is no installing of IFOEDIT... You simply unzip it and there it is... Is windows smart enough to recognize IFOEDIT as a program for association purposes simply because there is a copy of IFOEDIT on my hard drive or is there supposed to be more to the installation of this program I have missed...

Correct... If I right click and select OPEN WITH I get the box that lists programs to choose from... In this box you can browse for programs not on the list... If I select IFOEDIT after brosing it does NOT work... Acts as if I never selected the program... and no association is made...

What does your file type in folder options say about IFO files?
Does it have one? If not, then create one and point it at IFOEdit.
If does have one then delete it and create a new one.

After deleting IFOEDIT my IFO files of course had NO program association... After downloading a fresh copy of IFOEDIT and unzipping it I was not able to associate IFO files to it... I can associate IFO files to just about anything else I want, just not IFOEDIT...



***UPDATE - Problem Resolved***

I removed all IFOEDIT again... I stripped the Registry of all IFOEDIT related entries... I rebooted... Downloaded IFOEDIT again... Associated the IFO files to the program and SUCCESS...

There must have been conflicts in the Registry...
