Capture problems (yes I read the FAQ)

GeForce4 Ti4600 Leadtek.

I capture in DVD quality so I am getting MPEG2 720 x 480 which I am capturing from DirecTV. AS TMPGEnc will only load it as a video file, and I get no audio file (although the capture plays and sounds fine) I presume I have an MPEG Transport stream, not a program stream.

The software used to capture is the WinPVR software included with the video card.

I did try VirtualDub, but it just doesn't work. I get more lost frames than I do actual content. I've already tried many suggestions on Vdub, tutorials at varisu sites and every setting imaginable so as far as I am concerned, VDub is not an option.

The system is certainly up to the task, 2.4ghz. Athlon, nForce2 motherboard 2gb ram, ultra160 SCSI drives 10k rpm. No IDE drives. Only PCI card installed is the SCSI controller.

I trie dsome PVA tools to convert to program stream, but it crashes after 5 minutes or less.

Any other tools I can use to convert this to a program stream (since I presume this is my problem) so that I can edit commercials out, without the final product looking like a Hong Kong dub?

I think it's unlikely that you have a Mpeg-2 transport stream, it's used in digital video broadcasting systems (DVB).

TMPGEnc has done the same to my videos many times (loading just the video) although the audio is included in the Mpeg-2 (program) file.

Have you tried raising the Microsoft Mpeg Reader's priority? I'm not by my computer right now, but in TMPGENc's "Environmental Settings", there is an item linked to something related to Microsoft and Mpeg audio. Raise that priority, that did the trick for me.
