question on conversion from avi to svcd

when i convert a downloaded avi file and use either Winmpg or TMPE software, it converts but the converted mpg file now has blocks of squares that pop up. I am not sure how to get rid of that.
is there another software that someone can recommend.

I can't really help you with your current problem, but here's one approach that will give you something to chew on until someone more knowledgeable drops in. Formulate a keyword from your problem and run a search. I just ran one for "AVI Blocks" and got a lot of hits with some good info. Even if you don't solve your dilemma this way, you'll find lots of interesting reading and start to get a handle on the scope and depth of the information available here at Doom9. You'll have a lot of fun here and learn a lot, but it takes time. These guys are hot!

You might want to take the time to read some of the threads that don't look that interesting on the surface, as your keywords will be present in the threads that come up. Many times a thread will morph into something other than the title would indicate, producing some amazing results.
