Hi,

I am about to place an order at rima.com.

If I order the Princo 100-pack for $59 would I be in trouble? Are the Ritek at $91 worth $32 extra?

Which media should I get?

Thanks for your advice.

I have bought DVD-RAM from Rima and was satisfied. If you are looking for someone to give you a recommned on cheap dvd-r that work here is mine. I burn these with a LF-D311. I can only burn at 1X which from the looks at the sticky at the top of this section is the way to get the highest quality dvd - from any media.

I can't speak for the Princo's, because I have nothing but problems with them. But the Ritek's I've received from Rima have all worked fine. My last 200 were the inkjet printable ones and they work great too!

I'd pay the extra and get the Ritek discs.

i ordered a sample pack from which (amongst other media) contained 2 princos. both burned fine and were readable in all my drives including my sony standalone dvd player dvp-ns715p. although, somehow those discs "feel" cheap (sharp edges). i also have heard from people whose princos were not readable anymore after 6 months (so don't be surprised)... of course, it is possible that princo raised their quality standards in the meantime because of all the complaints

i have consistently used ritekG03 and i am very satisfied with them. i'm only waiting for the 4x-riteks (g04) to drop in price before i'll grab them!

Hi,

I got my shipment from rima. Good fast service.

So I have two spindles. One for Ritek and one for Princo. Trouble is I can't tell which is which! Or if any of them is Ritek for the matter!

How do I tell?

One of them has a white side and light purple write side. The other is silver and shine side with a very dark purple write side.

Please help!

Thanks!

White top/light purple underside is princo
Silver top/dark purple underside will be the riteks.

Another way to tell is load up DVD DEcryptor and go to ISO WRITE. It will tell you if its Ritek or Princo in the text box on the right hand side.

I don't think I'll ever buy Princos if I can help it after reading of so many problems various people had. I know a few people had nothing but success with them, but there were enough complaints to make me avoid using them. The Ritek's are really cheap anyway compared to verbatim or tdk or pioneer.

i just bought a 100 stack of printable riteks from Rima.com. Haven't burned them yet but i did notice that the 2nd center ring of the DVD (usually clear on the other brands) looks slightly opaque white with what appears to be speckles of air bubbles. You'll know it when you see it. Is this supposed to be this way? Can someone with these Riteks please verify that theirs are this way too. Thanks in advance. -syd

I also bought a rima.com sample pack to test on my DVR-105 and Toshiba 2800 dvd player.

Both Princo's & Ritek burnt and played fine 1x.
Optodisc both burnt fine but one had skipping, pixelation problems playing back in Toshiba 2800.

Both DVD-RW burnt and played fine. In Fact the rima.com sample pack Princo RW is the exact same as the DVD-RW that came with my drive according to advinfo tool readout.

Thanks for all your help.

I tried them both and the Riteks are WONDERFUL!!!

They are even better than the $5 each Memorex. I love them the Riteks!

The Princos burn fine. BUT most won't play in standalone DVD players. They do however read fine on computer DVD-ROM drives. So they are good for storing data and archiving. Good value at only 59 cents each.

Thanks to this forum I have learned of the Riteks and love them! Thank you SO much!

:( I've purchased a 100 pk of Princo's DVD-R(s) for about .60 each on 01/03. They worked fine, I played back-ups on Two set top players. I recently tried to play DVD-R and both the set top player(s) received error (BAD DISC 0r DISC DIRTY) on 02/03. I don't know if they degrade with time but I'm trying to get my money back. I still have about 50+ left and I have nothing but problems with them, it seem that for every disc I burn one fails. So stay away from White Top/ Purple Bottom Princo DVD-R 2.0 for General use. Also they do feel cheep. So if you get a good price (+free shipping) of Princo... You get what you pay for. Has anyone had this problem too...

Can you cut and paste the ADVinfo readout (First 3 line only) of your Princo discs please. Where did you buy them from?

What is your Writer and firmware version.

Software and DVD players?

Thanks

I don't know what your talkin bout "ADVinfo readout (First 3 line only)"? Where did you buy them from? Promedia Computer Supplies. What is your Writer and firmware version?
Pioneer A04 w/latest x2 burning firmware. Software and DVD players? Ifoedit 0.95 DVDXCopy 4.0, DVDSplit, Nero 5.10 and various DVD Authoring software; Sony and Kenwood set top player(s). BTW the Company is giving me full credit for the discs I didn't use. So I ordered Ritek(s). I agree with the statement that the member made as to the Princo DVD-R disc are O.K. for storing general data, (the discs with data still work fine) but for DVD-Video stay away:devil:
