converting XXX (triple X the movie not porn)

I am using Flask 078 and DivX 5.02 and the audio is going way out of sync (like 2 minutes!!) I am using 192kbps Mp3 sound.

I have had lots of problems like this since moving to Flask 078 is anyone else.

Any suggestions.

Also I try to keep files to 4.3 GB and put them on DVD+R. ??? If you are creating 4GB .avi files, the size alone may be your problem. I've read (but have not tested) that sound sync problems occur above 2GB, even with OpenDML format .avi files.

The largest DiVX .avi I've ever worked with is 2.1GB, which was then split. When I've done .avi capture, I've used Vdub segmenting, keeping individual .avi files at 2GB.

Even though NuclearFusi0n said it in a less than eloquent manner, it is an almost general opinion here amongst forum member that Flask produces inferior results. Try out other tools like GordianKnot, Vidomi or just plain VirtualDub.

However, I believe that Jiggimi's angle is what causes your problem. Instead of using AVI use another container like Ogg or plain MPG (or whatever people use when burning on DVD-R's). AVI's can react quite strange once they become larger than 2GB and 4GB.

If your doing an 4gb divx file then why not keep the AC3 track? I can promise you that you have bitrate to spare for it and you get much better audio quality. When going so high you could even fit 2-3 ac3 tracks without noticing a degree in quality.

First I don't think that an AVI file can be larger than 2GB (use OGG) and second, how could you get a file that big?!?! The biggest movie (in size) I encoded with DivX 5.02 (1 pass Quality based at 100%) was Spiderman and it's under 1.9Gb with high quality ABR sound.

BTW, I did a few short encoding with a 16000 bitrate with 5.03 and while the size was twice bigger I couldn't see any improvement...

OpenDML is a standard for AVI that can allow for up to 4GB .avi containers. This may be academic, as we may have misunderstood TCCK. I can't imagine how one gets a 720x480 DVD, even the "Fullscreen Edition" to expand to 4GB.

Actually i will try some of the suggestions above.

But for your info I have done beautiful 3.5Gb files of both new Star Wars (with no audio sync problems), 4 GB Shrek, 3.7Gb file of LOTR Fellowship of the Ring all in .AVI.

But I think I am going to switch to bbMpeg for my file type so I can make it play in a home DVD player easier.

Has anyone made DVD+R forms of a SVCD? Just wondering as I hate switching discs and I want it a bit largerr in size to have full quality. Hey they are my DVD's and I want a perfect backup that I can use instead of using the original.
Or can someone give me some good suggestions of making perfect DVD copies with 4.7GB single layer discs with original directory structure minus all the extra features of a specific DVD.

PS: NuclearFusion you could use a tad more diplomacy in the way you say things. I used Flask because it was easy and it did it all in one instead of doing the 2 pass encode with a few different tools but I am willing to switch now that I have a P4 - 3.06 system with HyperThreading. :)

Don't you check DOOM9'S HOMEPAGE (http://www.doom9.org) every now and then? He has a lot of guides on every conceivable subject when it comes to DVDbackups. I'm sure you'll find something on this subject, both on the 1)download 2)guide and 3)news pages. And if you click on the home button on top of the page (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) you'll find a number of forums dedicated to DVD2DVD backups.

bkam i think you misunderstood what you read. theres nothing stopping you demuxing the svcd stream and copying it to dvd r. You probably have to re-encode it to dvd res for compatibility.

The post I was referring to is right here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37534&highlight=big+dvd+svcd). It says that you can't burn a DVD in SVCD format in order to avoid using DVD authoring software (i.e., burning directly in SVCD mode, not decoding and reencoding to make a DVD). I thought that's what he was asking.
