I want to know what is the most populate Divx software player, right now!?!?

LOL! Come on guys, don't be so harsh on Cineman. (After all, as I see, he is from Hollywood ;)) He might have posted to the wrong forum and he still might not have come across the best players for XviD/DivX yet.

omfg. zoomplayer has like 300 options (hyperbole maybe?) and directly communicates to the decoding filters. It plays everything, is small, and is fast. It is the best. Anyone that says otherwise is ignorant and must see the light. But to each his own, but my own is better ;)

In the last couple of months I have noticed that (especially with b-frames), zoomplayer, wmp*.*, mplayer all replay slow. I think this is because my processor (1GH P3) gets maxed out when decoding the video streams. I use ffdshow with or without 'use xvid' checked.

However I have found that bsplayer does not suffer from this and the processor runs about 50%. I haven't been able to find out why this is and others have verified my findings. Therefore bsplayer gets my vote at this point in time. I would however like to be able to use the other players.

There is a little player I tried a couple of weeks ago called something like Crystal. It also runs video at the correct speed however I think had to click on an option to change to 16:9 aspect ration. Then everything ran OK. Maybe all the other players are incorrectly setup to play my encodes but bsplayer gets set correctly as a default?

I would be very appreciative if someone could shine some light on this for me.

I use WMP9 with vobsub.. (the SRS WOW/TruBass effect enhances movies so much!)

sometimes i use MPC (Media Player Classic) since it has the best dshow filter control!
TCMP looks nice tho..

PS did anybody notice what BSPlayer does to the sound? it kinda increases volume which makes everything sound really good...

Did you ever notice what it generally does to the picture? It kinda decreases quality which makes everything look really bad ;)...

However, I agree that it is really useful in terms of CPU usage, especially on slower machines (like mine ;)). If only it were a bit more bug-free!

I say ZP or MPC absolutely! ;)

I'm a diehard user of ZP and MPC also, both are great. I still don't understand how someone could be a diehard user of Sasami2k when it is never updated or has it been?

@Gazza : I think it has something to do with the overlay mode. When overlay mode 1 is active, all the calculation are made in YV12 colorspace, which must help in CPU loading considerations. I can't see any other reasons, since the filter chain when playbacking avi or ogm are the same in BSPlayer, ZP and MPC, but I'm far from a clear understanding in this matter.

@iago : Are you sure of your statement ? I never notice any difference ( but I never searched any neither ). Does BSPlayer really decrease the quality of the output ? Then, do you have an idea of why ?

My second machine, poor old Athlon700 Classic /w Matrox G400MAX (hehe), still handles XviD (with all weapons enabled) smooth. Even with lots of "F/X" by ffdshow :)
Urgent problems do arise with fullscreen 4:3 @ 50fps, but hey ...

I added "OTHER!!!" as option as that one was really missing. My CD player whose display is failing in the meantime simply rocks! It plays my XCDs flawless, it's incredible sharp and the sound in general.... hmmm...

Unfortunately I broke my turntable when trying to use it for playback :(

I get the same problem (even though I run an Athlon XP1800) and cannot find an answer. The workarounds I use:

Install dx9 and tick "Extended VMR9 Mode" in ZoomPlayer
or
Change fourcc to DX50 and use the divx5 filter to handle playback.

Zoomplayer all the way. I've tried BS and of course WMP. Nothing can touch something as streamlined and clean and yet as versatile as ZP.

I use Envivio TV Player. Obviously using ISO mp4 rather then avi.
