I have a pioneer A05, and I can't get it to burn a disc properly. I am simply trying to burn a data disc. I tried Nero first, it went about halfway through and then stopped. I then tried buring to a DVD-RW instead of a DVD-R. This worked just perfectly. So I then tried another DVD-R. This time it gave me an error right off the bat, I think it said "Pioneer calibration error" or something along those lines.
Next I tried Stomp RecordNow, and it started burning fine, until about 65% through the recording it stopped and gave me a "recording error". Checking the information, it said that this could be caused by dust scratches or fingerprints (though its a brand new disc), or I should try using a different brand of media. I currently have Memorex DVD-Rs. Are these not compatable with the pioneer drive? Or does anyone know what the problem could be? This is driving me nuts!

Power Calibration Error = the writer is not able to find a good laser power for your disc. I had this error only twice, and it was on Vivastar :scared:
Memorex could be Ritek or CMC. Which ones did you get?

It also happend if you try to burn @X2 on crap X1 disc, and/or with old firmwares.
On my A03, i get that with TDK-R1-0 (real TDK not princo) when trying to burn @X2 with 1.68_2x4all. With 1.9 & 2.0 2x4all, it "works" as it does not produce a calibration error.
But, TDK-R1-0 @X2, it's still not good !

I dont see anything on the disc saying anything about Ritek or CMC. The only thing I can find is on the bottom inside of the disc, "NK0058". I checked my firmware and its the latest one, 1.21. I guess I will just keep trying and see if I can get a good burn. What is recommended as some of the best media for this drive?

ADVDInfo, or DVD decrypter will tell you the manufacturer id of your discs.

The 3 discs I've used had a manufacturer ID "CMC00RG200".
However my other Memorex DVDs that I have left (I purchased them seperately) have a manufacturer ID "TAIYOYUDEN".
I'll try a burn with these discs now and see how it turns out.

Well, so you have media of both of the existing extrema of quality...

These worked just perfectly!
Warning to all - don't buy the Memorex pack that contains 3 DVD-Rs and 3 DVD-RWs!

One final question here, I'm wondering where I could find like a 50-pack of Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs cheap? I've tried searching on Pricewatch, but not much luck. I guess they sell them under other names like with Memorex.
