noise removing methods

First, I searched for a good thread about this and couldn't find so don't be angry if there is one...

So far I didn't have to remove noise so now when I do have, I could really use some help. There are so many plugins for that and a few methods: temporal, spatio-temporal, spatial...

I read about the differnces but didn't understnad a word cus it's all official language and I'm not realy good at it, I can understand only simple words.
What I did understnad from the forums is that there are two popular plugins: TemporalSmoother and Convolution3D (wich type is this one?)

Is there any *rule* what type should I use in any case?

moko, instead of asking for nonexistent "rules" why don't you experiment like we all do? These things are highly subjective. You can see the arguments here over different smoothing approaches. Let's not start more. :)

whatever filter you use make make sure it is the type that takes a mssk of the sound.

I am using a program called 'CoolEdit', but it is shareware, so I am looking for a freeware one.

You select part of the sound that has _only_ the background noise, it creates a mask of that.

You can then 'Extract Noise Only', you then listen to that to see if you can hear any good sounds, if you do you tweak it, if you can only hear BG noise then you select 'Remove Noise' with the same settings...

And there you got some good noise-reduction tips for audio too :)

Of course you wanted to remove noise from video, since this is Avisynth-forum and not for Audioediting, but this sure was funny.. :)

Yeah, it is a bit strange, maybe we should move the thread to another forum...
Since that post I found my way in the noise remove plugins more or less so it can be closed too.

But anyway, since I'm a good man ;) I'll help a poor soul... HighInBC, if you're looking for a freeware sound editing program you should try Audacity, it has some basic filters (VST plugins, nice!) that are not as good as CoolEdit's but are just fine for the job.
Can't give you a link coz I don't remember where I got it from...
