Is there any way to find out broken frames so you can delete them before you run tmpgenc.

What is your source?
I guess it is avi so try opening file in VirtualDub 1.4.7 and there is an option to "scan video stream for errors".
ps try to be a bit more clear and supply as much info as possible. A better subject line for example. ;)
