Well, I've just encoded a Michael Jackson video, 11min, 5-pass aiming 80Mbs (bitrate calculation through GKnot). I saw it on Windows Media Player and the image was horrible! Much worse then the same video, 80Mbs DivX 5.02.

But then, I remembered we can't save the playback quality in the Decoder Configuration, so I took the DivX Player, set quality to max and saw the video again. There it was, I can say a perfect image quality. Absolutely no ringing (that made me amazed), sharp and clean image (no blurry stuff).

So while they don't offer any new version for this decoder settings, use DivX Player to see your 5.03 movies. Too bad it doesn't activate the overlay settings. :(

Note: I'll try to post some images comparing.

I don't get it.. is your point that without any post-processing, the iamge looks awful, but with max PP, the image looks "perfect"?

OK, you're right. Perfect is too much, but the difference was huge enough that this was the impression that I got.

Anyway, adjusting my overlay settings also helped improving a bit the image quality. So maybe it was my fault too. ;)
