seeing that the stand alone players will be able to playback these files, i don't see why the divx502 decoder can't as well. is there a real reason for this, or is it just an attempt to get people to upgrade?

this is mostly problematic when distributing videos to friends, and they are not all computer friendly. even the ones who are but aren't into video encoding would find having to install a new version annoying

You should try ffdshow as playback filter. It can decode almost all mpeg-4 content ( ie DivX3, 4, 5, XviD... ), so your friends will only have to install only one filter to playback them all. Moreover, it's faster and it has good postprocessing routines.

I have not tested it, but for video without Qpel, the old decoder should have no problems. This is because they updated the Qpel to the new revision of the standard, so the old decoder wouldn't decode Qpel correctly.

i made a divx503 with b frames only, but divx502 couldn't play it back. if it had something to do with updated q-pel for new standard, that's understandble. but that divx502 can't play b-frame only divx503 i think is bad, and seems just an attempt to force upgrades (correct me if i'm wrong here someone).

well, not necessarily.. he is allowed to download that installation from that link (they openly give you that link @ divx.com if you click purchase, and then click "I am an upgrade user", or something to that effect), assuming that he is a registered owner of DivX Pro (that he purchased it) and is just upgrading his version.. he didn't tell us otherwise.... so... I guess if he asked for a keygen, then it would be warez.. correct me if I'm wrong?

can I play the DivX 5.0.3 made with Old School two-pass-mode without GMC or QPel but with b-frames?

b-frames seem to be broken (again) in this version. hopefully a bug fix will come out quickly, and fast!

*edit* I just realized that "quickly" and "fast" essentially mean the same thing... oops!

anyone did upgrade from 5.02 with the 5.03 bundle-ad??

sure it doesnt put adware on pc?

does it says that has detected the 502 vers and now upgrades?

(ps. what is the HTTPS thing)
