Merging 4 SVCDs gives bad sync!

Hi!

I am trying to merge 4 SVCDs to one .mpg in order it author it on one DVD.
Normally I don't have any problems.

This time it's LOTR-TTT. I demultiplexed the 4 SVCDs and muxed them back with german language.
Now I merge them with tmpgenc (mpg2-svcd selected) and the sync is lost in the complete file. The sync isn't getting lost slightly, but a single point. I didn't manage to find it exactly yet;-))

The result (this time) with M2-Edit isn't much better. The file isn't much playable via Mediaplayer or PowerDVD.

What did I miss? Sometimes everything's ok merging files via tmpgenc.
Any hints or recommendations?

I don't really recommend using TMPGenc for this kind of thing. Lots of people, including me, have had terrible sync problems when using TMPGenc to edit/merge. MPEG2VCR (http://www.womble.com) is pretty expensive at $250 US, but it contains an option in multiplexing that allows you to move audio forwards or backwards by specified amounts in the mux. That can fix a lot of sync problems. It's a terrific editor, but you might want to see if you can try it before buying it. A few guys in another forum are complaining about bugs in a new release.

The file isn't much playable via Mediaplayer or PowerDVD.The result file of M2-Edit must be demuxed (via TMPG) and then remuxed (via bbMPEG/auto muxing rate) to reach "usable/playable" status. It is a bit inconvenient, but for a perfect result you have to do something.

I have exactly the same trouble (on another svcd). I'm trying different stuff to fix the desync.

Right now, I'm just cutting the end of the audio for each CD. Cause it seems video is always shorter than audio after tmpgenc demultiplex. Very strange.

If someone have more infos, I'l lappreciate a lot or any advices

I must repeat my recommendation: M2-Edit Pro, then demux and remux.

If you want to recompress the result mpeg file(for create a new VCD/SVCD/DVD with re-encoding), it is not necessary to to the demux/remux. Just fire up dvd2avi and run.

M2-edit pro 5.0 doesn't recognize my scvd !!!
AVSEQ01.MPG does not contain valid video (using audio demux)
it doesn't want to load it anyway with the open mpg file.

Any clue?

A lot of the trouble of joining the files can be avoided by authoring your DVD with Maestro, it allows you to drag and drop multiple video files onto a single video track, the Maestro help file refers to it as "concatanation" of video assets.

I recently transferred a 4 part SVCD onto a DVD, with perfect a/v sync and with very little effort. The 4 files had no overlap so I did the following:

1. Loaded the 4 mpegs(in correct order)into DVD2AVI, demux audio, save project. This created a perfectly joined mpa/mp2 audio file, without any clicks, pops or stutters at the joins.

2. Re-encoded the audio to 48Khz AC3 2.0 using Besweet and Soft Encode.

3. Demuxed the four video tracks from the original mpgs using TMPG MPEG Tools. Renamed the video files 01.m2v, 02.m2v, etc.

4. Patched the demuxed .m2v files using DVDPatcher as described in the Doom9 Guide.

5. Imported the four video and the one audio assets into my Maestro project. Created a New Movie, drag and dropped the four video parts (in correct order)onto video track one, drag and dropped the audio asset. Authored and compiled the Title Set as normal.

6. Patched back the movie vob files with DVDPatcher as again described in Doom9's Guide.

7. Burn DVD.

Seamless and painless, hope this might help someone. :)

I will try your method but once again, the problem I have is: demultiplexing audio and video gives me a big desync, on one file, I have 2 sec desync.
I usually do my DVD with maestro without any troubles, I did lotr without troubles as well. But there!!! Each file I demux gives me something different.

I'll try with dvd2avi to get a complete audio, but what will assure me that audio will have the same length than video? Is the scvd incorrect?

I usually demux, then merge the 4 audio parts in filemerge or in vegas video then encode to 48 Khz. I'll try but I'm really not sure to succeed. Right now I'm going to join the 3 .mpg files in one with tmpgenc then demux the whole file. Wait and see.

If you want to get a vailid mpeg2 stream from a SVCD, you have to do so:
1. create a .bin/.cue image form your SVCD
2. fire up Isobuster 1.10 to open the image
3. right click AVSEQ01.MPG and select "extract with strip the mpeg stream"

Sometimes the SVCD was damaged and contained bad data - bad luck.
Sometimes your reader drive for the SVCD was too bad - use a Plextor CD-Recorder at a lower speed(2x-4x)!
