DVD2SVCD to DVD Compatible MPEG2

I am trying to convert a VOB to MPEG2 DVD Compatible file.
The problem is that source is 16*9 ant to maintain aspect ratio I choose 4:3( no borders encoded as 4:3 ).
After that my authoring DVD software uses that MPEG2 as a 4*3 file and the aspect at my freestanding DVD is a distorted 4*3 movie.
Is there any way to obtain a mpg2 file with 16*9?
Or, am I doing something wrong?

At the misc tab, set the dvd2svcd level to advanced, now at the conversion tab you will have an option of anamorphic which will raise a flag of 16:9 picture.
And btw, :readfaq: , it is also explained there and with more detail.

Thanks for u answer but,
I did select anamorphic to 16:9 on my first try, I got same results, a 4:3 movie on my freestanding player that means two black bars on my sony 16:9 TV with distorted 16:9 image.
Only solution till now was to select 4:3->4:3 and patching mpeg2 after to 16:9.

Read the advanced forum. There is a post there that says what you should set.

BTW you have to select anamorphic 16:9 not (16:9 borders added encode as 4:3). To find this setting you must have DVD2SVCD in advanced mode.

And while we are discussing what DVD2SVCD can do for this job, I would like to get oppinions on what I have heard in another forum, being a little ignorant about it myself...
I have inquired and searched for the "no-resize" effect, since I want to keep the source unaltered. (I am not into macroblock fiddling with FitCD). After some questions what to use, someone suggested not to use any resize option. So I forced a halt for script alterations and simply killed the resize line alltogether. It worked, as far as I could tell. Is this the right way to keep things as they are as much as possible? Why resize anyway, it has the propper size...?
I really would like to know if this is the way to go...;)

Don't know if it's the right way, but that is exactly what I do.
Since I am going DVD to DVD I choose as few filters as possible and I kill the resize altogether.

I was going to ask in one of the DVD forums if anyone uses filters or resize methods when doing DVD to DVD, but I never got around to it. I was thinking maybe Lanczos3Resize might be a decent choice since it's suppose to be real good with higher bitrates.

If you want to keep the source size you shouldn't use any resize. If the source size isn't appropriate I would definitly use LanczosResize (this filter is included with avisynth 2.06 and after).

ABout other filters I would definitly apply some for the noise reduction because the output looks nicer and the compressabilitie will be better. And you may say that there are many "clean" DVD's that haven't any noise and I say for what I've seen so far that all have some noise.

Thanks to u all for the feedback.
As my source, as explained before was a 16:9 not anamorphic I have no choice.
First try was to choose anamorphic to 16:9, but I got a letterbox. ( On other freestanding DVD players you can get other results...).
I think my solution is to pacht resulting mpeg header.
Or interrupt processing and changing cce project to a 16:9 output.
I would like to have a 16:9 to 16:9 choice.
About resizing and filters I will try your opinions.

I understand now what you want to do but there's no other way then resize it manually and select the anamorphic as the aspect ratio at dvd2svcd.

Supposing you have a pal 16:9 non anamorphic of 720*432, you have to resize it to 720*576 to get anamorphic video. (cce is limited to encode at 720*576, tmpeg is not, so I guess this applies only to cce).

Don't forget that pixel ratio is different on pal, ntsc, monitor and anamorphic video. This link (http://www.mir.com/DMG/aspect.html) which can be found in the doom9 forum (don't remember where) explains it beautifully.

Also try a proggie called video size calculator to help you make the conversions. The proggie can be found at this page (http://home.bip.net/gunnart/video/), just scroll down, the author is Gunnar Thalin.
