I am trying to encode MPEG2/AC3 HDTV transport streams of 1280x720p or 1920x1080i.
WM9 is painful for alot of reasons however at 4000K HD-DVD is a reality. Finding differences between Alias-HDTV and the WM9 version is virtually impsosible,
However, I wanted to give XVID a try and tried alot of settgins. Unfortunately I had to get to about 8000K to equal the quality of whe WM9 encoder, Ideally I would want to make MPEG4 complaint streams of euqal quality and preserve the AC3 stream.
Has anyone tried HDTV and found some settings/# of passes that work well? With WM9 Encoder I can get 5:1 compression (about) with 1 pass 92% VBR and stunning quality. 2-pass can decrease the bitrate by 10-15% and preserve quality on a frame by frame basis with acition scenes etc.
Anyone suggest a specific build of XVID+settings to experiment?
