After upgrading to 5.0.3, I encoded Queen of the Damned using the same settings as when I did in 5.0.2 except for the "Multipass" settings. I did one pass in "Multipass 1st pass", I did three more passes in "Multipass nth pass". The playback looked as if I used a very low bitrate when in fact I used 2000kbps. Another problem I have is that the filesize is roughly half of what it used to be. From 1.2GB to 720MB can't be correct. There has to be a way to tel the codec that the last pass is "the final pass". Does anyone have any ideas?

I just encoded a dark anime (Boogiepop Phantom) and a colorful one (Rurouni Kenshin). I tried both encoding with QPEL and without.

QPEL encodes is bigger. But the most amazing of all is that the new encodes of the Boogiepop Phantom are 2.5 to 3 times larger than the one encoded by 5.0.2.

I was randomly viewing the frames in vdubmod and I didn't see any difference for such a huge filesize difference.

also, 503 is about the same in terms of speed as with 502.

one word to describe 5.0.3 for me -->> disappointment.

actually :O well, I tested a short anime clip of various motion and brightness with DivX 5.03 (2pass and 6pass), XviD (koepi's latest build), DivX 3.11 sbc, 3viX D4, WMV9, and RV9 and I was pretty impressed with DivX. Each clip was 1024kbps, 512x384 and 24fps. I tested both with decoder postprocessing and directly in virtualdub.

err well instead of writing out a whole nother review just check it out here :\
