DivX 3.11 to DivX 5.0x Pro Conversion Problem

Hi, I am trying to convert a DivX3 to DivX5 avi file and somehow in the middle of first pass I get an error that a specific frame is corrupted or something... And then the encoding process stops.

Is there any workaround for this?

I think you'll have to feed the encoder an .avs rather than the .avi.

No this is too time consuming. Is there anyway to fix that frame or in genera fix the whole avi file?

What if I load it in Vdub and save it again using direct stream copy?

I also had this a couple of times ...
Try to find out if there are freeze frames in it, and try to decode with another decoder, (I remember I had to install te Angelpotion codec pack or something). I think it was because of the file being an MPEG4V3-file, but the DivX 5 couldn't decode it. The movie played fine, but somehow there were "problem frames" if I tried the same in vdub. I got it fixed by mixing different codec's and reinstalling divx 5 after that.

I know it's not really helpfull, and messing around in the registry and cleaning all the other codecs afterwards was a PITA, but it was not an issue for me. (I reinstalled my OS a few days after that anyway :D )

It was an issue with the decoding of the 3.11 by the divx5 codec, and in virtualdub. I think there are some threads about not making divx5 play 3.11 content ... use the Search-button above.

You could try that (although my guess is it won't work), or you could also try DivX Fix (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/DivFix1091.zip). But personally, I don't see what's so slow about making an .avs with:

AVISource("C:\Path\To\Movie.AVI") in it. And if you like, you can crop, resize and filter in there also. If you know the bad frame number(s) you could add a Trim command in the .avs to test if it will encode the corrupt frame(s).

DivFix Deteted 4 bad frames. I rebuilt the index and it messed up both my source and my destination file.

Fortunately I loaded the "fixed" destination file in VDubMod and it rebuilded the index but it warned me that there are no keyframes, hence seeking is sloooooow.

But I care not because I reencoded the file with DivX 5.03 Pro so keyframes will be created.

Everything looks normal so far (weird solution). The thing that amazes me is that with the same bitrate I have NO quality loss while converting from DivX 3.11 to DivX 5.03 Pro. Good stuff...

Converting result always in quality lost. Why would you convert a Divx3 to Divx5 anyway?
