What is different between "Closed Captioning" and "Movie Subtitle" ?

I would assume movie subtitle refers to "standard" subtitling whereas "closed captioning" refers to subtitles made for "hearing impaired" people, where the subs also describe events or noises in the movie (door slams, wind howls, etc etc).
Was it the sense of your question ? Or was it more "technical" than this poor simplistic explanation ?

Close Captions r part of the movie stream, they r coded between the video scan lines and only NTSC has adequate space for them, hence only ntsc laser disks were equiped with them.
There is a thread with detailed technical expalnation and tools for making cc (close captions) in these fora.
Subtitles r overlay pictures that u know already where r used and how to obtain and manipulate them. If not read the appropriate guides at subtitle section at doom9
