How the heck is it that movies can put like 4 hrs of content on a DVD yet I can't fit even 2hrs?? I have ADS instant DVD capture box and captured a 2hr 8mm home video cassette at 720*480 5mbps with 48Khz Mpeg-1 layer2 audio. The file size was 4.6GB. Are the DVDs that movies are burned on bigger or something? Any recommendations on how to decrease the size of my video? Also would capturing PCM 48Khz and then converting to AC3 decrease my file size enough? thanks for any help.

You're using DVD-R, which is limited to 4,37GB (single layer)
DVDs with 4 hours are most probably double layer DVDs, which have 7,95GB capacity ;)

Anyway, I don't recommend you to go under 5 mbps, it's already low enough.
Replacing MP2 with AC3 won't bring any size advantadge, cause MP2 and AC3 are quite equivalent in quality by the same bitrate => same bitrate consumption.

But if you really have to put the 2h08 on one single DVD-R, you'll have to reduce the video bitrate to 4,6 mbps :(
