Movie Only Method: Setting Default Audio & Subs

Hola...

Can anyone tell me where and how to set the default audio track and subtitle when creating a movie only set of IFOs with IfoEDIT.

My DVD player can be set to SubTitle OFF as a default... But can only select a language for audio.

It appears to me that when making a movie only back up with IfoEDIT that NO audio track is specified, therefore the disc depends on the DVD Player to select one. My player is set to English. The problem is that I may have multiple English audio tracks: English 5.1; English 2.0 and/or English 2.0 (Director's Commentary) on my back up.

More often than not the Director's Commentary audio track will start with the movie. This is not the case on the original disc, therefore the default audio track must be specified within the original IFO files. I just have NOT been able to find where to take control of this issue in the movie only back up IFO files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

This should work for you.

Using IFOedit, go into your main movie titleset IFO. Assuming your main movie is in VTS_01_*.vobs then using IFOedit, navigate to Vts_01_0.ifo/VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_1

You should see this in VTS_PGC_1.

Audio stream 2 uses stream nr.: 1

The value of 32768 means its your first and default audio.
33024 is second.
33280 if you had a third
33536 if you had a fourth

Swap the values of your audio streams.

Save IFO and test.

Now, there are cases in which you would have more than one PGCs in VTS_PGCITI. Just look in the audio section to find which one you want to work on. Most of the time, it's in PGC 1 \


Subtitles should work the same method.

Wow... Thanks for the quick and perfect response...

Is there a place where I can find more advanced guides to IFOEDIT... For me this is the only way to create DVDs... I like keeping everything in most cases... IFOEDIT allows me to do just that...

But all the guides I find are just basic stuff...

One other interesting problem I have is with DVDs produced for Sopranos Season 2 and 3.

The Sopranos discs have one PGC for each episode in order. But VOB IDs don't always correspond to that order... By this I mean:

PGC 1 = VOB ID 2
PGC 2 = VOB ID 3
PGC 3 = VOB ID 1

In the first Season they put 4 episodes (4 PGCs) per disc. So all I had to do was Strip the IDs for 2 of the episodes putting 2 of the 4 on one DVD-R. Then I stripped the other 2 episodes to back up a second DVD-R with the others... EASY

But in Season 2 and 3 of the Sopranos they put 3 episodes (PGCs) on a disc and two episodes will not fit on one DVD-R. If the VOB IDs were in order 1,2,3 like the PGC numbers I would still have no issue as I would just use IFOEDIT to SPLIT the second PGC in the middle placing episode 1 and first half of episode 2 on one DVD-R and second half of episode 2 and all 3 on a 2nd DVD-R.

However, I can't... If you select the middle of PGC 2 as the split point you end up with the second half of PGC 2 by itself on one split because it is VOB ID 3. Everything else is in the other split (IDs 1,2 and half of 3).

It appears IFOEDIT looks at the VOB ID when considering your split rather than the PGC numbers. Essentially, because I split halfway through PGC 2 (remember this is VOB ID 3) it splits VOB ID 3 and everything that comes BEFORE VOB ID 3 goes with the first half of VOB ID 3 regardless of what PGC was attached to this IDs.

Any thoughts on this one...?
