View Full Version : jumping chapters while playback

Hi everybody...
looks like I'm here to put you questions again, this time related to chapters :p
The story is that I've created a DVD with 28 chapters which seems to work nicely. However, idon't include any kind of 'chapter selection' menu, although chapters are there. I play my moie and can jump from one chapter to the previous/neext with the remote, but what if I want to jump 15 chapters ahead, let's say? Does anybody what should I do in Maestro to be able to jump to any chapter while playing the movie by simply typing the vhapter number on the remote?
Thanks...

You don't have to do anything. Just punch the number of the chapter and hit OK. Provided the chapter EXISTS. If you have 28 chapters on disc and you punch 2-9-ok, nothing will happen.(Duh!)
That was easy! ;)

Arianos,
thanks for the reply... but of course, I tried that before posting and didn't work on my standalone :rolleyes: However, commercial DVD's work the way you say. That's the reason why I ask if I should do something I'm missing. I've followed the Maestro guide step by step without susccess at that level...

And I wouldn't suggest it, if I hadn't tried it on both my Philips 743 and the Cyberhome 212.
Bear in mind that in my Maestro baby steps, I was following guides to the letter, and wondering why I had problems , such as :
1. I was so unlucky, that the first guide I followed had NO MENTION of the "First Play" item :(
2. The second one explicitly stated how to put items on Previous and Next Items, and I was wondering why my standalone's timer was blank!
So maybe you do something wrong, even though you follow a certain guide to the letter. Oficially, you should be able to punch in the number of the chapter, hit OK (or enter) and you would go there.

Well, let me just add that an Ifo-Edit created DVD will allow number input on the Cyberhome bunch, but not on the daewoo redstar family. Funny enough, it was vice versa with svcd. And with the goto function, I can still jump to the selected chaapter on the daewoo...
So perhaps there is more than meets the eye...

I understand what you say, Arianos. Basically you mean that there's nothing special to be done in order to have the numbers on the remote working, isn't it? Well, maybe it's simply a problem with the 'disable user interaction' (maybe I disabled too many things). I'll try to enable everything and see...

Well, finally got the thing workin'!
As I said in my last post, I experienced this problem because of the items checked in the 'Disable User Action' menu... I was checking the following, as it was said in the Maestro Guide:
* Title play
* PTT Search / PTT Play
* Time Search / Time Play
* Time / PTT Search
* Title Menu
* Angle Menu
* PTT Menu
since my Maestro came... let's say... with no manual, I don't know exactly what the things above mean. Anybody could explain? And which one was the cause of my cursors not working during playback? Could it be the PTT stuff?
Danke...

Well, I have the manual (paid for it) and I still don't know :)I guess I should study more :) I only know that Disney irritates the H**L out of me with the prohibitions it puts on it's DVDs!! So first thing I do is GET RID of all the prohibitions, not implement new ones :)
As I said on my previous posting, I think you too have fallen victim to a Maestro Mis-Guide :) ;) :)
Why disable something? If let's say Angle Menu is not there and you press the Angle menu button on the remote, nothing will happen.
Quit messing with disabling items, as it will only cause you trouble, if you don't know EXACTLY what you are doing.
Same goes for Playlists and Command Sequences.
Keep it simple, while on the learning stage :)

Hi Arianos,
well yes, I can only say that you are right. I already arrived at the same conclussion, and finally encoded my project disabling all 'disable actions', that is, enabling everything :D ...and now everything works *great*.BTW, how much is the Maestro soft in greece? Just to know...
But I honestly think the Maestro Guide is really ok, it's only that summarizing everything in few pages is difficult, I guess. I can not complain since everything I've *ever* done in SVCD/DVD authoring has been possible with the help of doom9 guides/advices/help.

altho this works on quite a few players, a lot of them require you to push another button or two before hand, eg display or scene.
but, every dvd player i have seen/tried has it in there somewhere, just not as accessable as some.

@fmazzanti: arianos was completely right at his remarks. Follow a guide but understand and always check what is the author doing all the time.
