ok ,finally there is a rpc1 firmware available for my drive (artec ultima DHI- G40 3.10) at the firmware page.
i downloaded the respective firmware and the fldl- tool (flashing tool) the problem is when trying to flash my dvd drive i get the following error (it does not start to flash, because i can still use the drive afterwards!)

Xfr Error FFFFF

does anybody know how to fix this error, or what i am doing wrong, i'm not quite, but almost a complete newbie when it comes to flashing firmware.
thanks for you help

PS: oh forgot: i only tried it using the winxp command promt, did not start from bootdisk! could this be the problem? on the firmware page they just say this will not work under win95/98!

You can't flash you DVD drive using XP command prompt because Only those parts of NT that execute in kernel mode (such as device drivers) can directly access hardware, for any DOS programs which runs strictly in a user mode that kind of access is not possible.
In Order to flash your drive you will have to boot your machine with dos boot disk.
