View Full Version : How to rid "Sweetest Thing" aspect ratio selection menu?

Hello. I have successfully ripped the Sweetest Thing, removing the full frame version, french language, and two of the trailers to get it to fit on one DVD-R.

Problem is, the menu to select either widescreen or full frame is at the end of the normal "main menu" contained in VTS_01_0.vob ID1. I must keep the main menu, so removing this VOBID is not an option. I need to just skip the aspect menu as the full frame version is no longer available, and if one accidentaly selects it, you have to remove the disc and re-insert to be able to change aspect back to widescreen.

I can find no guide to help me here, as this menu is not in it's own ID, but stuck on the end of the main menu's VOBID.

Help please?

Hmmm...the infamous aspect ratio menu. My favorite challenge.

I actually done this movie a while back but I didn't document what I did. Try reading my Joe Dirt cheat sheet on how I got rid of that aspect ratio menu. Hope that method helps for you. Here the link to my cheat sheet list.

2COOL, You are a FREAKING GENIOUS! I was able to find cell in DVD2AVI and disable the aspect menu from appearing as specified in your most appreciated cheat sheets. THANK YOU!

But, now that I have disabled the aspect menu, the DVD no longer knows how to play the widescreen version.

I know we add in the Post command line to set the GPreg so the widescreen will play, but how do we find the GPreg value needed? In other words, how can I monitor the change in GPreg value after selected widescreen?

Thanks again!

Did your widescreen movie play with the aspect ratio menu gone? If yes, then you don't have to fiddle with the GPregs.

Edit: OOPs!:o. I didn't read your reply well enough.

View your original movie and when you get to your aspect ratio screen again, there is a button, with a dot in the middle, on the right side of your IFOedit DVD Play panel. Press that and the bottom will extend to show your 16 GPregs. When you choose fullscreen, which GPreg changes value? When you choose widescreen, which GPreg changes value?

Write each value down for each aspect ratio and also can you post your post commands for your PGC-menu that your aspect ratio menu resided in. Copy2Clipboard and paste on your reply back.

Sorry for the late response, but my Internet service crapped out last night...

Anyway, I got it working! You provide great informations.

GPreg<0> = 4098 for Full Frame Playback
GPreg<0> = 4097 for Widescreen Playback

Strangely enough, the main & aspect ratio menu, and even the cell id of the aspect ratio manu is the same as "Joe Dirt".

Menu 5: [entry only] (Programs: 8) (Cells: 8) (use VOB-IDs: 1)

So, a good cheat sheet for this disc is:

To remove aspect ratio menu, browse to:
VTS_01_0.IFO/VTSM_PGCI_UT/LU_1 (English) PGC-Menu_5/

Find the cell playback section, and delete playback on:
[00000320] Cell_5: playback time (BCD) 481

Scroll up to the first Post command. Right-click on her and select "insert command". This will insert a new NOP command. Double-click on it and edit the Hex value. For widescreen, edit the Post command Hex to: 71 00 00 00 10 01 00 00

Greetz 2COOL!
