It seems I am having some hardware problems as I posted here:

I am wondering if someone would be kind enough to run the RAM testing prog Memtest-86 and report their results here. Specifically I am looking to see if the program reports different ram sizes depending on which test configuration you run. As an example, when I run Memtest in its default mode (bios - standard or something to that effect), it reports that I have installed 511 MB of ram and reports no errors. If I choose "c" and enter the configuration, and then choose "Bios - All", Memtest reports that I do indeed have the actual 512 MB of ram installed. However in this mode the test generates errors on certain tests. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly which test reports errors and right now I'm running DVD2SVCD so I can't check. I will post them in the near future.

I have posed this question to the Memtest author, but I imagine he gets many inquiries and have not recieved reply. So I'd like to see if any others experience the same results I am having. thank you.

Hi,I've D/Led and run this prog a few hours ago. Quite impressive software!
Anyway the results are,512 megs of ram being reported all the way
(4 hours test)And no errors whatsoever. My best guess is that
you might have a faulty mobo and /or some overheating (http://www.computerproblems.com/questions/question.cfm?id=3215) probs.

Regards.
