AUDIO_TS folder necessary??

I know it sounds like an odd question but is the AUDIO_TS folder (that is empty) necessary to burn onto a DVD disc? If it is necessary the most important question I have then is ... Why? Why would you need an empty folder on a "read-only" file system?

The folder is for DVD-A authoring. No, you do not need it for DVD video compilations.
