A customer of mine has a problem where windows 2000 refuses to recognize the DVD+RW disc. It keeps comming up as a CD and won't let him write to it.
DVD writer is HP200e, connected through firewire interface.
Any help appreciated.

All fixed, DVD+RW just needed formating. For some reason, imation ship thier DVD+RW discs preformated, where as the ones I sell are not, hence customer got confused.
Thanks all.

Imation DVD- discs are the worst on earth (some Vivastar are even better). I don't see any point in buying Imation DVD+ media...anyway, shipping unformatted discs should be normal.

That's another "absolute truth" alexnoe, with which I'll have to disagree. You can't just say Imation are the worst because you had problems with them as I can't just say they are the best just because I never had any problem with them.
Up to now, Imation DVD-R and +R work like a charm for me, burnt 4 DVD-Rs and 2 DVD+R without any problem, all played fine on my PAnasonic A360 and Proline 1040 standalone players.
Too many posts just say "verbatim are shit", or "Bulqpak are crap" or "Imation suck", this is not constructive, not argumented and really confusing to other people. Having read several times that BulqPak were real crap, I still bought one 25 pieces spindle (yes I'm dumb) and found out that for the moment, everything works great with these (burnt 6 (and watched the movies) already without a single problem).
So I'm a bit tired of posts like yours, no offense intended, but you really don't bring any information to the discussion ("I don't see any point in buying imation +R media" ???) if you don't give precise examples and numbers.
Maybe there should be some "comparative statistical" table about forum members opinions on DVD-+R brands ?
I don't mean to be rude, nor to prevent you from expressing your ideas, but the way you did was a bit too "harsh" to be helpful.

Verbatim currently has a very bad batch out there. One Forum member got a replace for such discs, and Verbatim didn't even want their broken discs back => they know that there is something out there which should not be there.
The difference between Verbatim and Imation etc is the amount of bad batches...
I think you still don't know what crap discs are. These are not discs which constantly low quality (of which only very few exist), but exactly what Bulkpaq etc are: highly verying quality, even within one package or cakebox.
Maybe DVD+discs by Imation are not made by themselves, then you are lucky.
You appearently consider discs "good" as soon as they don't show POFs after burning (hard read errors). But the more error correction is necessary to compensate for poor media quality, the less error correction is left for scratches and dirt. You will learn that after having lost some discs...do your Imation DVD-R read properly on a LG 12x or 16x DVD-ROM?
Playing fine on 2 players is no reason to judge a disc "good". I've seen a portable player which reads both Vivastar and Princo.
Really crappy discs don't play on newer LG DVD-ROMs, so this is the first test to run.

I won't start any useless argument here, but how logical is all this ?
You consider that a Imation DVD-R that plays correctly on two very different standalone players (one cheap entry model and a mid-high level) doesn't prove anything, but if it does not play on your latest LG, then it is pure crap ? Well, I guess you don't need me to explain the holes in your theory, it speaks for itself...
Once again, what's the point of insisting on the so said "crapness" of these brands when they obviously work perfectly for a number of users ? Are you a Sony reseller or affiliated to any other brand by chance ?
No hard feelings about this, but your way of thinking reminds me of so many posts I read in some Hi-fi forums where "highly educated" people just couldn't accept that cheap stuff could perform well when they paid millions for their own equipment.
Some people can be happy with cheap stuff as long as they have hat they want with it.

You consider that a Imation DVD-R that plays correctly on two very different standalone players (one cheap entry model and a mid-high level) doesn't prove anything, but if it does not play on your latest LG, then it is pure crap ?The LG drive is a rather picky reader => if it can read a certain disc, it cannot be too bad.
If it can't, then the disc is below a certain level of quality.
Since you don't know how picky your 2 players are, playing some discs doesn't allow any conclusion as to their quality

Just though I'd put my two cents in.
Just because a disc plays on two players doesn't mean it's of good quality. Admitidely it works for you, then great, keep using them.
Also when you are talking about DVDR media pelase quote the brand and MANUFACTURER ID as it will avoid a lot of confusion (ie Bulqpac don't make their own discs).
Here's the list of DVD-R compatible players we put our discs through before we are prepared to sell them:
Microsoft XBox
Sony Playstation 2
Sony DVP S525D, S715, S415, S7700
Samsung DVD 5124
Panasonic DVD RV32, LV 50, A350, 711
Phillips DVD 736K, Q35
Pioneer DV 344, DV 525
Toshiba SD1200, SD1300
TruVision DV 2200
Nakamichi DVD 10s, DVD 15
RCA DVD Player
Denon DVD Player
We found VIVASTAR wouldn't play properly on any of the machines above (hence I still ahve 90 of their discs gathering dust).
US sourced Princo 1x discs worked fine on most of the players above, with the exception of the panasonic portable, 711, and the nakamichi players.
Prodisc technologies G02 discs worked well on all machines, but we have issues with their quality control (might be sorted out now, but I can't be 100% sure).
Ritek G03 discs work great on all the above players.
And the Taiyo Yuden 2x discs also work flawlessly.

Well that is constructive and consistent information !
Thanks for your time and point of view gooki and alexnoe, I'll keep the results you posted for future reference (in case I finally discover last half of my BulkPaq spindle is ...crap).
OK, I'll stop bothering you guys now with my endless blabla...
have fun with your DVD-+R/RW whatever brand they are, whatever manufacturer id they are, provided you can enjoy good movies :)
