Currently i am running a Radeon 64 DDR VIVO, and am looking to upgrade my video card, but the AIW radeons are just too expensive. i have been looking at alternative analogue capture cards and was wondering what the visitors to the DV forum think of this particular one:
http://www.canopus.com/US/products/advc-1394/pm_advc-1394.asp
Canopus ADVC-1394
from what i can tell it is a OHCI DV card and can capture to DV from the analogue as well.
Thanks in advance

That card looks great! I would buy it if I didn't already have a miniDV camcorder that had analog conversion built in.

Maybe one day I'll buy that capture card too. I heard many good things about canopus capture cards.

@auenf
IIRC, the card is not recommendable... With the ADVC 50 you cannot disable Macrovision, because of that most people are using the hyped ADVC 100.
BTW, it seems that the hype is correct (first time since I'm around), but I have to check it when my ADVC 100 arrives.
Cheers,
Ookie.

@Ookami
I wont be capturing from any macrovision sources (or if i am, i can disable it on the other end ;)), so thats not a problem.
the ADVC 100 is the external box that requires a firewire card in the machine?
btw, i have priced the ADVC-1394 at AUD585 from a rather expensive 'local computer shop', which is actually very good price for them ;)

Yes, the ADVC-100 requires that you already have Firewire.
@Ookami:
My ADVC-100 cuts thru Macrovision like it was butter. lol. Once I became smart enough to get the process right (and it's not like it was difficult either, duh). lol.
