changing computer logo

everytime i turn on my computer the e-machine logo appears (cause it's a e-machine computer) and then the win-me logo.

i'm wondering if there's a way that i can change it to something i actually want?

the short answer: yes
the slightly longer answer: depends on if you can find an bios in .bin format, and then workout whether you have a phoenix, award or amibios ;)

i have a phoenix, not sure about the bios yet, if it's easy, just tell me; if it's too hard, forget it.

Some BIOS setups have a "display OEM logo" switch (lots of notebooks etc.) ... maybe yours has one as well?

some of the new gigabyte and msi board have an option to display your own logo , as you desire . not sure if this applys to your bios /mobo though .have you checked the web site?

mine doesn't have an "display OEM logo" feature on the bios, so there's probably nothing i can do; but what about the win-me logo?

You have to edit the file C:\msdos.sys. This is actually a hidden text file, so you have to make it visible first. Open a command prompt and type:

attrib c:\msdos.sys -s -h -r
edit msdos.sys

Now you should see it in the DOS-Editor. Search for a line called Logo=1 and change it to 0. If there is no such a line than just add it. Afterwards hide the file again by typing:

attrib c:\msdos.sys +s +h +r

This should do (I hope). Can please someone with a running Win98/SE/ME check that, as I don't have one installed and never touched a DOS-based Windows for at least six months.

I used to work for an OEM doing tech support and ours was labelled as QUIET BOOT ON/OFF look for that and turn it off..

it's always the first link i see, (download.com is the first link of my ie) and that solve the problem of the win-me logo.

my bios doesn't have QUIET BOOT, but it has something called QUICK BOOT; but what does it have to do with changing my e-machine logo?


also, my computer can never seem to power off, it just has a black screen with the underscore line blinking, i just turn the computer off, but it has to go through scandisk every time i turn it on, any help would be appreciate, and would save me some time.

Quick boot just changes what is checked in the system at POST. If it's on, the E-Machines Logo goes away quickly. Where I used to work, turning off QUIET BOOT would force the computer to not display the big blue world logo that that company used. I guess e-Machines is different.

In terms of your computer not shutting down, here's a link (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B238096) to a Microsoft Article on shut down issues. The article is for Windows 98, but most of the information contained in it should work for Windows ME as well.
