hi all

i'm having a problem, and i'm hoping someone can offer advice or tell me what i'm doing wrong.

I'm creating DVD's with episode of stargate ripped from the actual dvd's. i have no problems creating a dvd to play in a standalone using two episodes, menus, and such (using maestro). when i try and create a dvd with only one episode, and trying some shortcuts, i'm having problems.

i want a dvd with no menus and only one episode per disc that will auto-play in a standalone player.

here's the process i'm using. where am i going wrong?

1. ripping episodes using smartripper. creates files "vts_01_x.vob"
2. i then copy a blank, 114k video_ts.vob file into the same directory (created from a maestro project)
3. i then run ifo-edit to create the .ifo files
4. when done, i have a directory with video_ts.vob, .ifo, and .bup, as well as vts_01_1.vob, .ifo, and .bup, as well as smaller vts_01_2.vob/ifo/bup.

when i try to burn these to dvd-r using nero, i get an error message "file "%s" is not referenced and should not be present, file reallocation failed"

when buring these to DVD anyway, they will play on PC, but not on a standalone dvd player.

my goal is to create a single-episode dvd using the ripped vob without having to demux, load everything in maestro, and compile. takes too much damn time.

i don't care about chapters or anytthing of the sort.

suggestions?

thanks

uhh..yeah.. there are alot of easy ways on doing this.

DVD Decrypter (or Smart Ripper) - Rip the movie, including the IFO and BUP files.

Open up your ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOedit, and determine which VOB contains the "main source". In this case, the episode you want to rip. (If you have a hard time deciphering what is in what vob, then you will have to Vob Rator to get exact sequence previews).

Once you have located the VTS stream that has the episode you want ripped, open the IFO corresponding to it. e.g. VTS_02_0.IFO

In there you will see something like this:

PGC_1 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [01:12:11.01 / 30 fps] (Programs: 10) (Cells: 10) (uses VOB-IDs: 1,3,4)
and bunch of chapters and times underneathe it. Best way i can describe it really. You of course choose the one that you know is the episode/movie you want to rip. Its usually the one with the longest time. But in your case, its a 2 sided coin. You may have to guess, if you didnt use VOB Rator to see what it was.

In the above example the VTS vob-id's at the end are really important to remeber.. these values of course differ from dvd to dvd. Click the Button "VOB EXTRAS"
make sure the following are checkmarked:
Strip Stream's
Strip VobID's
Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in Vob-files
Correct original IFO files
Create new IFO files (movie only)

Vob Size 1GB, and the above default values should work.
Choose a location to where you want this new stuff saved in the field

Destination directory:

then click "Ok"

A window entitled "Stream List" will pop-up. Choose whether you want to keep or rip out any audio streams or sub tracks. If you want them all still, just click all of them.

Then click "Strip It"

Now it will list VOB-ID's!!! the important part. In the above example you needed to know which vob-id's this movie/episode contained. In my case, it was vob 1, 3 and 4. So i check mark all of those.

Click Strip It.

Wait a couple of mins. When its done. Go and open up your newly created VTS_01_0.ifo file that was sent to the destination directory in IFOedit, click "Get VTS Sectors".

Now your done. If by chance this made no sense.. just read up doom9's guide. Or try this video tutorial i found:

thanks for the tips. that's about what i tried late last night after posting my message. the only problem i ran into was this: let's say for example the dvd i'm ripping has five 45-min episodes on it. however, there are 7 or so main vob's (vts_01_x, _02_x, and so on). so, episode one is contained in vts_01 and part of 02, episode 2 is contained in part of vob 02 and part of 03, and on and on. that's where i'm getting confused as to how to determine which vob ids to use, bla bla. but i'll give this a try.

thanks again

vob are not the same as vob ids
one vts can have alot of vob id #s
sometimes vts 1-9 only have one id #
thats why he wants you to look in ifoedit
