DVD stand alone playback problems - jerky on dual layer

Now I know it says on the back of dual layer DVD’s that transition between layers may cause a slight pause, but it’s so annoying!!! Do they put that so people with low quality players don’t complain? Or is this a problem on all standalones? I have done a search but no one else seems to have this problem. The out come of the question might make me by a better player as apposed to my pacific-1002 with I can’t even make region free! Any advice? My thoughts are the some actually buffer the DVD playback so there is no pause (just less buffer usage ) and other players I.E mine , plays with no buffer

I've never had this prob and my standalone is/was real cheap only £120, that was 3 years ago:rolleyes:

thats not only a problem with cheap players, it happens also with "high quality" players, more ore less.

It happens on my player too. Just very slightly, but noticible.

Some dvd players have a buffer to prevent it, the Denon models and maybe some other brands...

Thanks for the replys , well i am happy with my player , if only it didn't stutter on dual layer disks, i do have 3 years guarantee from WALmart so i might change it just to see if its the make/model , all in all though it plays dvd/Svcd/mp3 so no complaints , and for £79 its not bad at all. so does any one recomend a good make with a buffer?

well this is weird , i watched LOTR and half way through it started jerking a lot then ...smooth ! yup it was very strange , this all started after i region freed my player , it might well be a "warming up " problem , like an old car lol :D

What I get is a slight pause. I never had a problem with it being jerky. I know it's a transition problem and fairly common.
Some players have multiple lasers(one ahead of the other specifically for reading the second layer) and some have a buffer like skip protection on a cd player.
