Hi everyone.

I'm completely lost right now - I need help!! I am trying to get to the point where I have a divx movie with two audio streams which I can switch between in powerdivx nextgen 3.0 (This is the only player I've seen so far that seems to have the option of switching).

So far, I have used GKnot 0.27 to rip the DVD and encode using divx5, with two audio streams.

Last time I tried this, I used the vbr mp3 option, but had problems seeking etc (and even opening the .avi surprisingly).

So after reading the forums, I tried again using the LAME -cbr switch to get cbr mp3 audio on both channels.

I assumed that I could use VirtualDub to rewrite the vbr headers with cbr, but it only seems to do this for the first audio channel (which then plays great by the way, but only one channel)

Is there an easy way to rewrite the header for both channels to cbr?

Would I then be able to play both streams in powerdivx, or am I completely barking up the wrong tree here????

Thanks so much, I'm stuck and can't seem to find anything in the forums, which probably means it's blindingly obvious what I'm doing wrong!

Hi and welcome to the forums-

I'm not sure I can help, because I've never had the problems you describe (and I don't much want to try and reproduce them). But I always use VBR MP3, and frequently use 2 Audio tracks. I use the BS Player and haven't had any problems opening the .avi, seeking, or switching audio tracks on the fly. I use Nandub to mux the 2 tracks (although I've been told that the VDubMod is as good if not better). I use Nandub's default values of Preload of 500 .ms and Interleave 1 frame. GKnot uses Preload of 500 .ms and Interleave 2 frames. I don't know if the different Interleave settings have anything to do with it. Maybe fool around with it and see.

I also use XviD (without B-frames), but don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Hi. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I tried changing the interleaving settings, but still no different. PowerDivx will play the avi, but it will crash when I try to change streams. Presumably because it doesn't support vbr headers. I am encoding with B frames by the way.

Anyhow, BS Player is wonderful so I shall use that, nandub and vbr mp3 from now on. It means that the other two stream divx movies with I did before and thought were useless are actually fine!

So thanks for the pointer! Much appreciated.

afaik you can also use wmp for audio switching if you install the ffdshow filters, but imho bsplayer is way more user and resource friendly (and not one of the crap M$ products). i do use bsplayer and i've never had any problems with it!
