For anybody that actually owns one of these, this (http://hijacker.rpc1.org/kiss/) site might be interesting. The website describes in detail how to remove the protection and offers modified firmware files for download. It is needed to connect the drive to the PC and the whole action is likely to void your warranty.

Tomshardware (http://www.tomshardware.com) have done a fairly decent articale on the
KiSS DVD DP-450 (http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer/20030124/index.html) player. Worth a look with some useful info.

Tom's article got posted to /. so it should get more attention. However, it's not a very good review, and who ever does Tom's divx writeups does not seem very knowledgable (as has been noted in the past). For one thing, the review says one of the shortcomings of the player is that it doesn't support Divx 3.11, but fails to mention that it isn't legally possible to do so since divx3 itself is an illegal hack.

The review seems very interested in the hardware, but doesn't tell us much about how the system operates. What are the bitrate/resolution restrictions? How was the quality, any post processing? Does it support multiple audio streams, selectable subtites, ect?
