Hi all,
I have an external A04 burner connected via firewire. When I burn at 1x speed burns fine (Princo, Ritek G3, Maxell 2x). When I try to burn a 2x (Ritek or maxell). It burns fine, but stops playing on DVD player about 1/2 through. I have used firmware 1.33 and 1.4 with same results. Burn movies via Nero 5.5.10.0. Also tried Nero 5.5.9.17. Playing back on Panasosonic PV65 DVD player. Plays all the 1x burned movies with no issues. Operating system is Windows XP Pro if that helps. Any suggestions are welcome, as I would like to start utililzing 2x burns.

This looks as a media/ SA player incompatibility.
Try a Pioneer 2X, or try your dvdr burned @X2 on another standalone player to check

flanman,

I too have had similar problems as you have described.

To overcome them, I now burn X2 using Ulead DVD Movie Factory, had no problems since.

I have no problems using Nero burning at X1 (done loads)

Yeah, it could be Nero. I use DVDXCOPY once in a while (when I feel lazy), and version 1.3 would create discs that weren't playable. The same original, copied with v1.3.1 works perfectly now. The difference? v1.3 used a Nero engine by default, v1.3.1 uses a Gear engine. Both recordings done on Ritek G3 discs.

I just downloade both the gear pro and alcohol 120 % software.
Will test burning at 2x to see if it makes a difference.

I was able to burn a 2x dvd last night using Gear Pro 6.03. I only have the trial version though :(. Will try burning a few more this weekend.

try burning with PrimoDVD. Its compatibility with dvd players is good
