Digital audio question

I've got a quick question for anyone willing to answer.

Is DD 5.1 downmixed on DVD players that don't have the capability of using DD 5.1?

if the player doesnt support 5.1 output (either analogue or digital) then it would HAVE to be downmixed, mainly cause the vocal is normally carried on the centre channel.

The L and R RCA audio outputs are exactly this.
