jerky encode

i never did any xvid before so when i did a small sample encode and then play it back it had very very slow framerate.

it was like trying to play a 3d game with no 3d card. it just jump around.

i did the same sample with divx5 and rv and it was normal (smooth)

i tried diff xvid codec but its the same.

as a newbie i was using autobub.

i left the settings at default so not sure what went wrong.

i don't think its the playback cause i use ffdshow and all the divx/xvid clips i d/l are ok


any help would be appriciated.

is the problem CPU based or codec based? Meaning, is the decoding eating up all the system resources or has your encoding created nasty framerate problems? If the problem is in decoding, make sure that you have a correct version of FFDshow installed and that that post processing options are within reason of your system's ability. You could try letting xvid itself do the decoding by disabling or uninstalling FFDshow. If the problem is on the encoder side, you're probably doing some kind of weird pulldown or and/or deinterlacing that's causing bad field/frame problems. There are plenty of guides and threads related to that.

the problem was not in decoding since i play it back in virtualdub and it show the same effect.

as for cpu utils, i am not sure... i was using other apps as well and it wasn't that back. set piority on 'higher' was well...

but i think ur right with the field/frame issues, i just not sure what it is since i left it default.

i'll try different prog to encode it and see...

i did the divx with the same .d2v so it can;t be the source either

I would advise loading the video you want to encode in VirtualDub, opening XviD's configuration dialog via the Compression window, clicking "Load Defaults", pressing OK a couple times, then encoding your video.

If it doesn't work after that, there is something going wrong.
