<newbie>

To watch a XviD encoded movie I installed Nic's standalone DirectShow filter... it all works fine. Now I want to do some conversion using VirtualDub, but when I try to open the .avi file VD gives the following error message:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.
Where can I find a VFW compatible XviD codec?

Thanks.

The same place you found the DirectShow filter I would assume.

You want the "binary" download. I would advise the "Latest binary" copy, not the "Latest development (unstable) binary."

Only download the "unstable" binary if the first one didn't do what you needed.
