VCD und SVCD to DivX

Hallo,
I want to convert VCD and SVCD to DivX.
The movies are usually splitted. I want to put them together again and compress them so that they fit into one CD-R.

There are two questions remaining:

1. What resolution do I have to choose?
I used the following:
aspect ratio VCD SVCD
2,35 352x150 640x272
1,85 352x190 640x346
1,33 352x264 640x480

2. How can I put the seperate parts of the movie together?
I did it like this:
VCD:
Open parts with VirtualDub
Compress parts to .avi [DivX + mp3]
Cut overlapped frames with VirtualDub
Append parts with VirtualDub

SVCD:
Open parts with DVD2AVI
Save .d2v + mpa
Open .d2v with VFAPI and save as .avi
Open .mpa with WINAMP and save as .wav
Open .avi and .wav with VirtualDub
Compress parts to .avi [DivX + mp3]
Cut overlapped frames with VirtualDub
Append parts with VirtualDub

I have read that guides before, but they don't tell exactly what resolution is to be used and how files can be appended.
