editing VOB files using DVD2AVI

i really like DVD2AVI. Have used it a lot to convert DVDs to DivX. I would like to edit VOB files but burn it as a DVD. I want to use DVD2AVI. I can use Ifoedit & Nero to handle most of the process. Can someone tell me how I can chop a VOB file using DVD2AVI and get back a valid VOB file. Thx.

I've been tempted to add those features (multiple cuts and save vob) for some time now but it's probably a larger project than I can tackle at the moment.

But maybe someone else can be talked into doing it. ;)

this is an approach i took:
- Use DVD2AVI on 1 VOB file that i wanted to edit & select the portion to keep. saved it as a project along with the decoded wav output.

- used TMPGEnc to create an mpeg output with both audio & video.

- renamed the mpeg file as a VOB file (is this legit????)

- the vob file plays ok on zoomplayer.

- i then created a new set of IFO files using Ifoedit.

But, unfortunately, the DVD player in the Ifoedit doesnt play the vob file. do i need to do anything else?

i dont have any subtitles and have only 1 audio stream. any help will be appreciated.

This technique involves re-encoding the video which will make it look worse, I think you need a way to cut the vob files without re-encoding, you would need a program other then DVD2AVI (in fact you shouldn't use DVD2AVI at all).

And no a vob is not just a renamed mpeg (zoomplayer plays it because it is still just an mpeg). Sorry but I don't have much experience trying to get new DVD compatible vobs so I cannot offer much advice, there are some DVD authoring tools here at Doom9 that you could try.

found an interesting tool called Chopper XP (thx to 2COOL who suggested it in one of the threads in the ifoedit forum). worked great for me. When a rip is slightly over the infamous 4.38GB barrier, this is a gr8 tool to trim some extra fat instead of re-encoding or using 2 DVDs.

VirtualdubMod has some support for MPEG2 files now. I don't suppose it can cut them in direct stream copy mode?
