Hey there everyone.
I have a bit of a problem with DVD ripping and i'm sure someone can clear it up (i'd appreciate any help anyway)... so heres the problem.
I just bought a DVD+RW and was planning on backing up some of my DVDs to DVD+R.
Before doing so I did a bit of research and found that the average length a movie can be to fit on a DVD is about 2 hours.
So... I decided as my test rips I would use :
Star Trek - First Contact (106min) 2.35:1
back to the future - pt1 (111min) 1.80:1
considering that both of these movies were well under the two hour mark I thought that this would be easy sailing... so only wanting the movies on DVD and nothing else I decided to use this tutorial tutorial here (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-menustripping.htm)
I tried first contact to begin with, I followed the tutorial to the letter, fist ripping with dvd decrypter and then using IFO edit to remove everything except the 6channel audio track & video.
To my supprise when I had finished ripping all the 'crap' off the movie it was 5.24gb... is this right?! That works out at about 50mb a min for video data... surley this cant be right? I re-opened the new ifo in ifo edit and all it shows me is one video stream and audio stream
I next tried back to the future (same settings).. and this ended up near the 5.5gb mark..
please someone proove how stupid I am and tell me if u have any idea what i'm doing wrong.
Also what are the rough specs for DVD-R... i mean how much video / audio can u store on one DVD-R (i know a lot needs to be taken into account) but is there a url discussing this?
