playing MPEG4 video of VHS quality on the color LCD screen or TV.

this allows a very wide interpretation in terms of quality! i wouldn't buy it without actually seeing it work.

even then i just wanted to say that i've bought the ARCHOs jukebox (20Gig) which is quite similar to this one just only mp3 support and no colour LCD. anyway i've had some slight problems with it, but i've heard about other people who had really bad trouble with it. especially newly released hardware by archos is often very buggy. somehow it appears that they fix it with firmware/software updates very fast though. and yea... they have the worst support i've ever seen. do not bother to write them an email, they won't answer anyway, and don't expect any kind of live- support (phone, chat, etc)

so as a conclusion, if you buy something prodzuced by ARCHOS, you should not buy a product that has been on the market for less than 2 or 3 months and even if you should probably look for alternatives, even if they are more expensive anyway, this is a low budget alternative!

a friend of mine has had the 6 gig version of the jukebox and loves it in every way. other people he knows have gotten the 20 gig version and they love it. i am thinking of getting the 6 gig jukebox/usb hard drive so i can store and carry movies as well as listen to my mp3s. plus i can get one for only $119. ive read quite a few things about the jukeboxes and have seen the issues some have had but i think it will work just fine for what i need it to do.
besides if i have any problems with anything i buy i can always call up the trouble shooter, he has helped me out before on a hard drive issue i had once. after sending an e mail to Tom, i had a new hard drive in 2 days. a consumer advocate on a national radio talk show can do wonders when he makes a few calls. so if you have any problems you cant seem to work out yourself try....

there's probably a difference between US and european products too. would be nice to know where archos products sold in the US are manufactured!

this is the US ;) the only way to get a hard drives in 2 days around here is to go into a shop and buy a new one. if you want a replacement for your malfunctioning piece - god help you, if you don't have a second HD. i'd have to make a riot to get a replacement faster tahn 2 weeks (:
