View Full Version : problems with godfather iii (pal)

after part i and ii i'm now reencoding and reauthoring part iii trying to get a dvdr exactly the same as the original..
the first parts went without any problems and i'm very happy with the results i got..
the third part is another story.. it's the last step (ifoupdate) where it goes wrong.. when i try to correct the original movie ifo i get this error:
error: the original ifo's pgc area is not large enough to hold the new pgc. aborting
i did a search on the board and found out it's caused by importing too many chapter points but i'm certain thats not the case.. i'm importing 25 chapters and thats exactly how many there are.. i checked the scene access menu..
i have a feeling the original main movie ifo is somehow screwed up and because of that i cant recreate it..
my reason for thinking this is something strange i had when i was ripping the subtitles.. when i open the movie ifo in subrip i dont see any subtitle streams.. i only see 00 -, 01 - etc.. but no the usual 00 - English, 01 - Swedish etc..
but when i press verify it says seven subtitles streams found but still it doesn't know which ones and displays them like 00 - ???, 01 -??? etc..
it's like not all the subtitle info is in the original ifo.. but ofcourse that info is in the authored ifo i'm trying to merge with the original ifo..
anyone any ideas, suggestions or sollutions?
regards,
Lev

I finished godfather III a couple of weeks ago. If I remember corectly there r some pgcs that r not actually chapter points and this is what is causing the trouble.
Check the in 2 instances of ifoedit that u hav recreated exactly the stucture. U know open ifoedit 2 times and load in one the original and in 2nd the reauthored part. U should spot it immediately

Just open it. Make a note of the assets missing. Give yours the same name. They should import ok without any problem and compile.
I had no problem with the result.
The chapter timecodes were taken by scenchap from the d2f dvd2avi gave me.
Post back for any problem encountered.

First of all I want to apologise for the delay.
Second, I have checked the new ifo in the DVD-R and it corresponds to the project I've sent u. So there isn't anything that I did and did not remember.
I assume that we dont have the same version of the movie.
Nevertheless I could take a look at the your ifo and recommend what u should do.
Check your pm to find my email. I will be expecting one form u.

We had different vesions of the authoring and that's why my project din't work at yours.
As u can see there is a pgc 1 that is 12 frames long. Go to the end of the time line and create a chapter point as close to the end of the movie as possible. Name it pgc1.
Now click on the right bottom corner of the main window to reveal the playlists. Create one and add as a only chapter the last one u just created (pgc1).
U have to add a chapter point between the 13th and 14th ones. Add a chapter at 1:19:52.02 and name it cell14. Right Click on it and select 'Edit Marker' uncheck the 1st tickmark to your right and check the Dual Layer Break one.
Add one more chapter point at 2:36:02.06.
Now create a 2nd playlist and add all the chapters in sequence except the last one (pgc1). When u end there must be 25 entries in playlist 2 and 1 in playlist 1.
Build and ifoupdate using maestro mode.
Report back if in doubt or trouble.
PS. Study the differences and the proposed solution. U ll learn a lot.

i did exactly what you told me oddyseus and even i can see we're getting somewhere but there is still one program chain (pgc_1) that shouldn't be there..
this is the ifo i got this time:

i cant thank you enough for your help (:

Every thing is as they should be.
U created 2 playlists and there is a third one created by Maestro. Everything is fine.
The rest of the job is up to ifoupdate.
Open ifoupdate
Select the original ifo
select the new maestro ifo
select the Maestro mode
and enjoy your movie.

I've managed to get the DVD to work again after replacing the VOB's but I've still got a few queries and problems
I cannot get my subs to import, I have 1329 sub bitmaps created with Subrip and a .son file yet only 704 are imported
when I try to import chapters and get the same type of thing thing , it only imports 16 chapters even tho there are 25 in the .chp file
I used %hh:%mm:%ss:%cc \n as the format
can I also ask why does the Maestro IFO (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/maestro.png) only has 1 VOB ID, when the Original IFO (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/original.png) has 2
sorry about all the questions, but I'm still a little unsure, tho I have found the answer to most of my problems
any chance you can elaborate on those short instructions in the quote above?
I need more info on the best way to demux, do I demux by VOB ID's or just the complete VOB?. What about the best way for subs and chapters?
I can re-encode the file no problem, but then I get back to the authoring part and it all goes wrong. I have the two seperate VOB ID .m2v files but I also have another .m2v file with the two VOB ID's together (yet importing the latter after parsing it says it's only only 1 second). Which .m2v do I use?
I can import everything fine and create playlists, it's just the 2 VOB ID's thats confusing me
Once I've done it I should be ok but the first success is always the hardest!
cheers 'filos'
p.s. you ever been to Naxos, gotta a few relatives over that way and in Athens:)

Both your problems r shown up because the timecode in CCE window started at 1:00:00 and not 0:00:00, thus limiting the range for Maestro to input chapters and subs. This is a well documented problem in the CCE re-encoding realm. Search the forum. As a solution, u have to reset video's timecode to 0:00:00 from Maestro before importing.
As for the 1sec video there is a thread about it, just read it today.
U don't have to worry about vobids. they don't matter anyway in the reauthoring, as long as the relevant cells r in place.
Ifoupdate would take care their correct placing in the ifo.
The instructions were applicable to the specific ifo Lev had created and the movie, not sure if they apply to u as well, didn't have the chance to compare your ifos as well.
Pls point out the exact points that u don't understand. I am more than willing to help u.

DOH!, sure I done this with the main movie, I always do, but would the 0.12 second video need resetting also as I haven't even used CCE on that

in my 2nd PGC in my new IFO, the 0.12sec video has been included as a chapter, will that matter regarding chapter selection in the main menu?
the thing I'm having the most trouble with is importing subs using Subrip as it was missing the 1st 600 or could that have been because of the timestamp (hmm), chapters I have done before but if you could check that I'm using the right format with ChapterXtractor that would be good
Is it possible to make a Video Title set with 2 PGCS and have VOB ID in PGC 1 and VOB ID 2 in PGC 2?
this would give an IFO like this one HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/temp/2titspgcs.png)
thanks for all the help, much appreciated

if u added the main movie after the 0.12 sec video then, yes it mattered, since Maestro timecodes always based upon the 1st insertion on its timeline.
since u r using playlists to reconstruct the pgcs of the ifo, this chapter point as far as Maestro is concerned is not a chapter point anymore. It is a pgc boundary. So no need for worry.
U r importing part of them, rn't u? So the timecode format is a valid one. I still believe that is a timecode offset or a I-frame insertion problem. Have u defined an I-frame for every chapter point in CCE?
As for the vobids, although I ve never tried it cause it really doesn't matter at all, I think that if u insert 2 video streams in the timeline, u'll have your 2 vobids.
No I haven't visited Naxos yet, although I have many friends that were born there, but I plan to.
