How do you keep menus

How do you use ifoedit to keep the main menu, main movie and bonus movie. I know the main and bonus movies are within the vts_01_x.vob's.

I use looking at the method here but not sure what to do:

The main movie is Title 1: chapters 1-14.
The bonus movie is on Title 1: chapters 61-94.
I think the menu is on Title 1: chapter 95
THere is stuff in between I dont want.

I also wanne know this... i have several DVD-R's wich uses dummy files as their vob files (wich were extra's)
So my question is also...

1. How to keep the menu and the main movie file from a dvd where the main movie file and the 01_0.vob file (menu) are below 4.3Gb but if ya count extras etc with it it's over 4.3gb ?

2. How to keep the menu and the main movie file, wich is "stripped" to 4.3gb with 01_0.vob menu file counted with ?

3. How to keep the menu and the main movie file, wich is "reencoded" and "stripped" to 4.3gb with 01_0.vob menu file counted with ?

There have to be a better way, not using maestro etc... i just don't understand the dummy thing... must i do something afterworths ?

Me Thinks:

1. Rip Complete DVD to hard drive
2. replace all extra vob files with dummy's (renamed txt to *.vob)
3. reencode or/and strip you main movie file
4. replace your encoded vob files with the original ones
5. DON'T copy your VTS_TS.IFO but copy only VTS_01_1.ifo
6. Open VTS_TS.IFO in ifoEdit and press region free
7. Then select "get vts Sectors" and save all ifo files.
8. Burn !

I don´t know if i understand you right. You want to keep original menu on your DVD+/-R??? OK.

I´m not sure about your method. In my opinion there is no need of replacing your original VOBs with fake ones. To keep the menu you have to:

0) be sure you have backuped all your files
1) do whatever you like with original VOBs (strip or re-encode them)
2) (rename) and copy over all new "authored" vobs to the original DVD structure (DO NOT COPY OVER *.ifo and *.bup files)
3) make ifoupdate
4) delete all "0 bytes" vobs
5) make delete playback (titles you do not have on your compilation), region free, etc in video_ts.ifo in ifoedit
6) start ifoedit again and get VTS sector
7) burn it on dvd+/-rw

The process is the following:
Firts, check the total size of the files in the DVD but without the ones belonging to the movie itself . Example :

DVD structure:

video_ts.ifo
video_ts.vob
video_ts.bup
vts_01.ifo
vts_01_0.vob
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01.bup
vts_02.ifo
vts_02_0.vob
vts_02_1.vob
vts_02_2.vob
vts_02_3.vob
vts_02_4.vob
vts_02.bup

Rip it all to a folder named RIPPED in your HD.
Clearly the movie is vts_02, so select all the other files in the DVD and write down the total size. You have to add the size of the vts_02_0 vob file, because that is the usual file that holds the menus. In this example I figure that vts_01_1.vob holds the extras. So you have (video_ts.ifo + video_ts.vob + video_ts.bup + vts_01.ifo + vts_01_0.vob + vts_01_1.vob + vts_01.bup + vts_02.ifo + vts_02_0.vob + vts_02.bup)= 1 GB . So you know that you have to encode the vts_02_x.vobs ( without the vts_02_0.vob ) to fit (4.3-1-0.2)GB, that is 3.1 GB. The 0.2GB is due to the extra size used by DVD Maestro for the authoring.
So lets say you have extracted the movie and audio tracks from the 02 vobs, encoded the movie and authored it with the audio tracks, what do you have? Take a look at the destination folder where Maestro puts the files ( from now on AUTH ):

video_ts.ifo
video_ts.vob
video_ts.bup
vts_01.ifo
vts_01_0.vob
vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob
vts_01_3.vob
vts_01_4.vob
vts_01.bup

You have a fully compliant DVD structure. Take into account that Maestro always creates a single vts_0x.vob sequence, just the first one. So what in the original DVD was the vts_02 it is the 01 in the authored DVD. Now launch IfoUpdate. You can see three sections: original ifo, authored ifo and backup. Do nothing at this point, there´s something more we have to do before "making magic". Do you remember the directory where you held the ripped DVD with the whole structure? That´s right, RIPPED :D Well, go there and delete the vts vob files belonging to the movie ( those were the vts_02_x.vob ) but very important KEEP the vts_02_0.vob ( that was the one with the menus ). Now go back to where the authored files were ( AUTH ) and rename the vts_01_x.vob to 02 , and again , JUST the ones starting from 1, like this:

vts_01_1.vob --> vts_02_1.vob
vts_01_2.vob --> vts_02_2.vob
vts_01_3.vob --> vts_02_3.vob
vts_01_4.vob --> vts_02_4.vob

and then copy the renamed vobs to the directory holding the ripped ones ( what we have done is substitute original vobs with authored vobs ). Now , back to IfoUpdate, the final step:

Original ifo: always select the ifo that belongs to the movie vobs, not the main video_ts. In our example , go to RIPPED and select vts_01.ifo.
Authored ifo: select the vts_01.ifo file in the authored folder AUTH.
Backup: choose any place to save a backup of the original ifo file.

Now press Update Ifo File and then Update VTS Sectors.

Wait a sec and then open your favourite DVD player , fire up the RIPPED folder and watch and see everything as the original but with the encoded movie!!

Woah this could well serve as a guide, don´t you think? :D

If he followed the solution above he would a have disc that wouldn't work correctly. So if he wants working chapters as well as the menu then this guide is no good.

I don´t know if you were referring to me when you said "following the solution above" but I´ll answer to you anyway.

You see, there´s a point where I state "do the authoring in DVD Maestro", what do you think that stands for?
I may be wrong, but what I understand for Authoring program is that, a program that authors DVDs; that includes movies, audio tracks, subtitles, ... CHAPTERS, etc.
It was not my intention to give him a full insight on authoring DVDS, my intention was to just ANSWER to his question , why does everybody always see the glass half-empty instead of thank people actually giving some help?
You´ll find one day that noone answers to your questions, case you do any.

Actually, only the Single PGC and the TiVo to DVDR guide references Maestro. All other guides on the site are written around Scenarist.
