OK, once more I had problems with svcd on my Pioneer dv-444. In some movies (by far all) in cerain parts I get glitches, artefacts and sometimes the movie freezes. I tried I dv350 but the sam problem occured. I Believed it was a Bitrate problem since everybode says so. Most of the movies I watch have been made by someone else som I cant do anything about thge bitrate. BUT (OK, heres comes the interesting part) tried to burn the movie at x4 in Fireburner since i couldnt choose x4 in Nero (Using Daemin tools) som I burned the bin/cue in Fireburner at x4 AND woops, suddleny I didnt se the glithces. WHY? What is happening? This operetion cant by some magiv trick take the bitrate problem away? Can it? OK, so WHY DO I HAVE THESE GLITCHES OM MY DV-444? Is it REALLY a bitrate problem? Is it med media or the recorder? Is the program? Please, help my find it out.

JvD,

Both myself and a couple of friends have experienced the same problem. It seems that some DVD players cannot play SVCDs that are burned over 4x. Not sure if it has something to do with the media, the burner, or the player. I would tend to think it is a combination of burner and media. I can use cheap Princo CDs @8x without any problems, but Mitsumi @8x gives me problems.

Sounds like 4x is the speed for you ;)

OK! Thanks! But the strange thing is that people say that it is a bitrate problem which shouldnt be able to solve through slow burning. So, I dont like Fireburner and would like to burn with Nero (CD-copy of Daemon tools) BUT I cant burn slower than x8, how do I get x4 to work? How do I enable lover speeds tha x8 in Nero?

Hmmm... In Nero I get a pull down list of speeds in the "Write Speed" widget under the "Burn" tab in the "Write CD" dialog. I just move it from 8x to 4x. If 4x is not there i guess your CD burner does not support the speed.

Almost all the new burners (spped over 32x) can only burn at the speed 8x or more. So go out to flea market(or in ebay) and buy a secondhand cd-burner with the max. burning speed of 16x. In CDRWIN, CDRDAO, Nero etc. you can then set the speed of 4x.
