I have the Sony DRU-500A and I have been using mainly Nero or Nero through image tool. I would like to see what else is out there for good DVD burning programs.
Besides just wanting to try other DVD programs I want to see if the reason one of my DVD player can't play my DVD's is because of the way they are burned. According to vcdhelp this player shouldn't have any problems with any DVD recordable format and there are many responses saying as much.
Thanks,
Mark

I have to agree, Prassi Primo DVD, seems to be the most compatible with stand alone players.

It doesn't seem that Primo supports the Sony drive. I have version 2.0.829 and it doesn't see the drive. Also the pdf at their website does not mention support for the Sony. Does a version exhist that supports this drive?
Is there anything else besides these two that seems to be very compatible?

@markrb:
For me the best is PrimoDVD, sadly Nero is not good for "compatibility" when burning DVD's...Go to Veritas site and download the latest pxEngine 358. This may solve your problem...

Thanks for the heads up, but it didn't help. It seems they haven't updated the software to include this drive yet.

For what it's worth. I use Nero's newest version 5.5.10. and I've notice that if I burn in UDF/IFO the resulting DVD won't play in the dvd player. If I burn in UDF mode only, it plays first time every time.. no exceptions in a set top DVD plyaer. There is also a DVD Movie setting and I never got it to burn correctly either. Also, ISO 9600 must be checked and Joliette unchecked.

Prassi. I had the Sony drive too, and unfortunately I couldn't get it to work either. I'm not a Nero fan, so ended up taking the drive back. Too many problems...

I have the Sony DRU500A and DVD X Copy. I have only had this burner about a week, but have backed up six DVD's with no problems. I am really impressed with how simple DVDXCopy is.

Hi,
you can always try to use Instantcd-dvd. I been using Nero 5.5.7.8 ( Udf/Ifo ) since the begining ( main movie only ) with no problems....yet!
To burn a .Iso, i use Prassi Primodvd and it works great. Nero gives me probs.

Success with the DVD stand alone that woundn't play with anything made by Nero.
I tried two other methods and both worked.
The first was to have IFO edit make an image and then burn with RecordNow Max and the second was to simply have RecordNow Max burn the Video_TS and Audio_TS directories in data mode.
