View Full Version : What setting to change sound volume of final SVCD?

(yes, I did search)
I have converted about a hundred movies to SVCDs using this Wonderful program, but I always have the same sound problem with the Final SVCD-- The sound is too low, and I end up having to really crank up the volume on the TV to hear.
Exactly what setting do I change and what do I need to change it to in order to increase the volume in the final SVCd to...say.. 150% of what it normally ends up (when I use default settings) ??
I have Autodetect Azid Gain checked and I have even tried adjusting some of the numbers in the "Advanced Azid Settings", but Usually I end up with the sound all messed up (some things too loud, talking too quiet, etc)
What setting should I adjust.
Thanks for your help.

Please use only one ? in your tittle.
You may want to have a look at the BeSweet homepage for info on that part.
However the auto detect is there to give it the most gain with the least amount of distortion. If you push it louder chances are it will start to distort.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.
Basically I have just been using the default settings, which seem to give my final movie lower overall sound volume.
I was looking for some guidance as to what settings I should change and by how much. (I was hoping there was a single setting or couple of settings that could just be changed, but I see it is more complicated than that)
As markrb has suggested, I have gone to the Besweet homepage and am currently searching through thier information base trying to learn about the options, and their effect.
I will figure it out...I hope..hehe.
I do appreciate your feedback.

The best person to ask would be DSPGuru.
He does show up in this forum from time to time, but he mostly hangs out in the Audio forum.
I think you are going to have to encode the audio outside DVD2SVCD to do what you want, but I really am no expert.
See if you can't get DSPGuru's attention.

jorel what's your problem? You have been around here long enough to know how it works. If you don't like it leave.
Simply put your posts in this thread have been no help and just trying to stir up trouble. Stop it, now.
What's worse is that what you claim happens all the time did not happen at all in this thread. All you did is complain and offered no help.
If you have nothing of value to add then don't post and in this case you added nothing.
If people do not know the answer do you still expect them to answer anyway? Like I said in my post is that the only person who can probably help is DSPGuru.

I believe you just put a higher number in the azid gain offset..say like 12 or say an 8. In the old days it would simply start at 12, then 11, then 10, etc. till it wouldn't overflow. Look in the advanced reference..there's an explanation from Danni the author of gui for azid IIRC. Anyway...at least we found out who encoded tdi-ttt...good moses that was low sound.

your attention to 'normalize to' @ Azid1 frame & 'PreGain normalize to' @ BeSweet frame.

Interesting question (to me at least) is why would volume be too low on ALL the SVCDs lpDad produced...Considering he extracts the original soundtrack and reencodes it like we all do, through the valuable tools made available by DSPGUru, there should be no difference.
My guess is something might be messed up on your PC, lpdad. Did you install any "audio" drivers or audio software after DVD2SVCDn, that may have changed some DLLs used during the audio conversion process ?
Maybe what I suggest is irrelevant, but I can't see any other possibility about it. Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the whole DVD2SVCD pack ? Maybe try on another computer ? Or might it be related your standalone player ? Did you try your SVCDs on another player ?
If I'm correct, there should be no reason to change Besweet Auto gain settings since the conversion process should be the same for everybody using DVD2SVCD (correct me if I'm wrong here). The reason to excessively low volume must be somewhere else...
Sorry if this is not "directly" helpful, I'm just trying to figure out where the problem could come from and I believe, like in many cases, that cross tests may help (same SVCDs on different PCs and different players).
Good luck.
