Hope you can help a n00b out a bit. I'm not into encoding movies or anything, but am having an error with playback. I've got clear picture, but no sound on a few files. I have tried everything I could find. Installed the filters as the xvid q&a suggested, as well as the ogg vorbis filter, but none have been able to help. When I play the file in media player and check the error from the web help link, this is what I'm getting.
The required codec cannot be found

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required codec cannot be found. To determine how to obtain the codec identified as 2000, contact the content provider.

download Gspot (doom9 downloadsection). it is a program that analyses an avi for you and sums up all the information it can get, including codec, bitrate etc. in the lower left corner there is some information about the audio. which kind of audio is muxed into the avi and at which bitrate. it would help enormously if you posted the results you get about the audio.

also could it be that there's a ac3 files muxed into the avi and you do not have any ac3/dvd drivers installed. (this can only be the case if you do not have winXP iirc!

hope this helps

Thank you thank you. After much searching (the info you gave didn't help directly, but I searched for stuff based on that info) I found a solution to my problem. Search for a file called ac3filter_0_63b.rar. File is a self-install file. Fixed all my errors.
