View Full Version : Permanent subtitles affects the way CCE encodes

Hi, I've searched the forum and I didn't find any similar "problem" so I post here.
What happens is that whenever a subtitle appears the whole frame gets darker and when subtitle goes away the frame gets brighter again the way it should be. I guess CCE doesn't know that we are feeding subtitles and messes up the white balance of the picture.
To solve this issue I was wondering if I should alter the blend or other setting of the subtitles.
So I am in hope for anyone with ideas for how to encode (CCE settings?) without this flickering. I am pondering leaving the subtitles out for good :( and if it's the only way...

edit: this may sound idiot but I was wondering if it would be possible to "mux" the bmp subtitles with the encoded video from CCE? If not it was a good dream :)

Cheers

Does this happen in the resulting mpg or on the TV. I could imagine that the TV is changing the picture as well. Do you see it on the PC too?

@ux-3
Do you see below my name? It says I'd like to know too. Yours is senior member, I guess it says it all. :o
:stupid: That's right it's the Tv doing it. I never considered that chance because dvd's display the image with subtitles without problems, I guess it has nothing to do with it.
I feel embarrassed now, I go sit on the corner with the hat.

edit: I think I should deserve a strike for creating this thread! :scared:
edit 2: these smilleys are neat :)

Don't ask for strikes here, man, believe me, I know what I'm talking about :D

This problem is fairly common with TV sets and can be to a certain extent "attenuated" by reducing your global contrast settings in the TV (should never be set above 1/3rd of the maximal possible value).

If you own a "high level" set, there must be some fine settings you can achieve through "service mode" that will help you solve this issue.

I forgot to mention that you can get some "TV tuning" DVD called Avia Home theater, that will help you fine tune your set (including problems you mention) through a set of visual patterns and good explanatiosn on how to use them.
Do a search on Avia home theater in google, you should find some info about it. I used it on my set and it really helped.

Do you know where I can find the most affordable option? Thanks

Well you should first tell me what you TV set is. Then I may point you to some sites dedicated to these questions.
But we should use PM since this discussion doesn't really belong in this forum.
