ffvfw vs. divx3

note:xvid's ME got really out of shape on the scene
after cca. frame50 ( when camera in guys hand is moved downwards...) : both divx3 and ffvfw were ok on that scene

if there's interest i'll post short video sample of that anomaly
( let me just add that i've seen ME problems on xvid before ( simillar to divx4.12 problems for same video-source )....it's was moto-racing video....needless to say
divx3 got that ok... )

OK folks. Lets do it.
Move the frame numbers at front like this:

ffvfw_frame84(fastrepack) rename to
84ffvfw_frame84(fastrepack)

Rename them all and load in ACDsee or something.

Now Page Up and Page Down

I have the reason to presume
that 3.11 is your favorite here :)

But, look at:

frame20 - metal letters JVC below objective
-ffvfw wins (look at that nice letter C)
*******************************************
frame61 - dark grey areas - move the
brightness slider (or wheel) way up and
notice much more uniform color on ffvfw.
*******************************************
frame8 - now we can see that even more
on orange and red areas
*******************************************
frame96 - at first I`ve thought that 3.11
holds details best, but, look at that line
that separates wall and floor between
their legs. 3.11 looses left part.
Others not that much.

3.11 is more and more outdated. I know that it is
hard to leave your habits :) (long live Vidomi -
my favorite encoder!), but you
can not fairly compare your well known codec to a
new one that no person here can properly set up.

BTW it wasnt an easy decission to download
those 3,2 Mbs. Next time, use PNG
for photos (less than half size of BMP)
and GIF for graphics. My phone bill
is comming soon and my wife will probbably kill
me or something... :).

FFvfw has a huge potential (rapid improvement too)
and I would like to exchange experencies here and
at hr.rec.divx with you and others. Much
better than chewing that old 3.11.

P.S. >4Gb ffvfw`s first pass on Vdub still bothers me :)

Nandub kicks Vidomi's ass in terms of encoding for quality and size.
Only a newbie would use Vidomi IMO ;)

Only highly experienced eye like yours could tell
one encode from another.
My not.
I have tried both and one thing
I can tell is that with such improvement in a codec
like xvid has, every newbie (like me) will soon be able
to make a perfect encode even with a simple tool like
Vidomi.
It still gives the best give/get ratio.

And those words about leaving habits were ment for me, too.

Only two ways to get perfect quality with DivX3.11a and thats Fairuse and Nandub :p


And any newbie can use Virtualdub and DivX5.02 Pro or XviD now and have damn near perfect quality :cool:

If your to compare DivX3.11a to anything besure to use the best possible way. ;)
