View Full Version : Problem with bin filesize

I've been using DVD2SVCD for a while now and have happily converted about twenty movies. Been using it 'as is' and have never needed to change anything.

The last one I did however (Spiderman) has given me a bin file too large for my burner to handle. When I attempt to burn it in Nero it shows as being 730MB. This was the 2nd cd - the first was fine.

I tried overburning but this fails.

The bitrate tab has 740, 800, 740, 800 etc.

Can anyone help?

Actually this also leads me to another question. If I have 80 minute cd's, should all the values in the bitrate tab be set to 800?

TIA

OK, I'll take a stab at it.

You can easily burn an 800 MB SVCD bin file to an 80 minute (700 MB) CD-R. If it truly is only 730 MB, then go File-Burn Image in Nero, and you shouldn't have any problem. You might have to set it for Disc-At-Once (DAO), though.

And if you're using 80 minute CD-Rs, then set to 800 MB in the bitrate tab (might as well fill them up).

Well thanks for the reply but your suggestion is exactly what isn't working.

Nero reports:-

Total capacity for burning 83:28:57 734MB

Total capacity on disc 79:57:73 703MB

This says to me that even though the cd is 700MB, Nero *will* let me overburn - but only by 3 Meg.

So the way that I see it is that DVD2SVCD has for some reason (that I don't understand) created a file way too large.

I wonder if this is possibly a bug?

Hi-

Didn't work, eh? Maybe something wrong with the disc? Maybe try a different one? Maybe something wrong with the burner. Have you tried another burn since then? More likely something wrong with the Bin file. Did you try and mount it in Daemon Tools and see if it plays OK? Sorry, fresh out of ideas. :(

703MB is for DATA CD. (S)VCD uses a special form of CD, which bypasses the errorcorrection parts needed for DATA CD, thus enabling you to write 800MB to a 700MB CD. It seems you are trying to create your own data structure for the VCD, which won't work. If you open the file menu of nero you should have something like 'burn .bin/.iso' (Don't remember exactly, I usually don't do VCDs). If you open the 800MB file this way I'm sure everything will be OK when you burn it to a 80min/700MB CD. And yes, for a 80min CD you should choose 800MB in DVD2SVCD.

@Twowit2woo
You should select .cue file, not .bin file.
