Just wondering which codec AND what settings to use to create a video stream that I can mux with mp4creator and make it useable in QT6?

(Or should I use some completely different compressor?)

I've tried some setting but apparently I don't get it right, when I fire up the movie in QT6 it complains about the video "contains sprites" and cannot be played back...

Sounds like you used GMC, which QT6 probably can't decode.

Nope, not a X in any checkboxes... Should I perhaps alter the stream ID in mp4UI to make it work?

Hm I guess QT6 is reading the profile information at the start of the file, and something (mp4creator? an old XviD version?) wrote a generic header with everything enabled.

I can only suggest trying the most recent unstable build, as I know suxen_drol implemented some fixes a while back to enable QT6 compatibility.

So far I've "only" tried with DivX Pro 5.0.2, and as I said, all three checkboxes cleared.

After that I used mp4creator60 (build 0.9.7 from RareWares) to make the mp4 file.

I also added an AAC audio stream with the same mp4creator, then I ran the shebang with -optimize...

Finally I opened the files in mp4UI and altered the audio stream ID to be 64 (0x0f).

Still I get the "QuickTime does not support sprites" error message..

Now I downloaded XviD 27.11.2002.0020 from uManiac's site, but I'm not at all familiar with the compressor, so any tips on how to configure it would be appreciated!

Later,
Anders.

To eliminate the Divx encoder as a suspect I'd select to write a Divx MP4 file in the codec and see if that MP4 plays correctly in Quicktime.

I would try the same mp4 but w/o audio to see if QT6 can accept it, and/or encode audio to MPEG4 AAC using aacenc_mpeg4 or Nero plugin (if you previously encoded it with MPEG2 version).

edit: nevermind, seems that 'sprites' error caused by GMC indeed (with both divx and xvid).

When in doubt, just hit the 'load defaults'-button.

Apart from that, there's plenty of info floating around here. But really, the defaults are fine. The only thing that I'm not sure of is whether linear curve compression has made it into the defaults for the stable build, yet. Make sure 'use alternative curve system' is unchecked in the Alt.Curve-tab and set values for 'high' and 'low bitrate scenes %" to 0 in the Two-Pass-tab.

Thanks a lot, all of you...

I haven't found *what* was wrong, but now it suddenly worked... I've used the same compressor settings as I mentioned above, I encoded the audio as before (PsyTEL AACenc 2.15 and AAC Machine).

I also muxed exactly the same way, and changed audio stream ID to 0x0f....

Really weird!! It was also the precisely the same audio and video streams that I began with...

Kinda makes you wonder... Are there such things as computer Trolls? *lo*

I dunno if I should pay any attention to the following message, but perhaps someone here at least knows what it means?

D:\Movies\Work>mp4creator60 -rate=29.97 -c=test.avi test.mp4
mp4creator60: Warning: no Visual Object Sequence Start (VOSH) header found in MPEG-4 video.
This can cause problems with players other than mp4player included
with this package.

Any ideas about what this is? (mp4creator60 build 0.9.7 from RareWares)

Anders.

Hi, I use this method:

I create an AVI Divx-Xvid file. No Bframes, GMC or QPel (because Quck time 6 doesn't support any of them). Only Psychovisual if I want. I don't use the "Make MP4 file" from Divx codec because many MP4 players don't support it (I really don't know why).
I create the Audio file: MP3 or Psytel MPEG4 AAC (LOW COMPLEXITY else QT6 won't play it).

Mux all toghether using Mp4UI.
