Me and a very skilled friend of mine are intersted in making tools for DVD ripping. For personal use at first, and if they can contribute to the forum we'll happpily post them, but we need to know stuff about the format.

I firmly believe that (good as they are) the utilities we have to today are riddled with the need for making exceptions, workarounds, manual tweaks, etc just because most of these utilities are made via some form of backwards engeneering. While the acomplishments are impressive indeed it still seems that there's not a "full understandig" of how things work.

You can get these specs from the official society if you pay them $5000 and sign some sort of contract. And this is only for the basics (not as a soft copy either , but paper!). For in-depth information you'll have to cough up additional thousands of bucks for each appendix of interest.

Guys who made all different kinds of rippers must have an insigt in how this all basically works. Take f i DvdDecrypter that can demux, decrypt or parse just about anything on a DVD. Not to mention Derrows IfoEdit ... that's a piece of work! They must have loads of information.

Has any such info leaked or is it available from the net in some ways. Please tell me if any of you know. But please refrain from posting links about all the "glossy" information pages. I want the marrow :)

cheers

Have you looked a Derrow's page itself? There are links to info pages, including my own (which is where he got his info). http://www.mpucoder.com/dvd/
